Images of naked prisoners in El Salvador traveled the world and the state president, Najib Bukele, released him in person.

It is the state’s response to the massacre carried out by local gangs across the country last weekend. Only from Saturday to Monday, in the midst of the quarantine, at least 50 people were killed in the country, reports Al Jazeera Balkans.

According to authorities, gangs have taken advantage of a situation in which all police and military officers are busy fighting a pandemic to confront each other. The murders are believed to have been ordered directly from the prison.

Najb Armando Bukele Ortez (born July 24, 1981) is a Salvadoran politician and businessman who became the 46th and current President of El Salvador after winning the 2019 elections.

He assumed office on June 1, 2019. Najib Bukele ran as a candidate for GANA’s center-right party and became the first president. He is also the founder of the New Ideas political party.

Previously he was elected mayor of Nueva Cuscatlán 11. March 2012 He was also elected Mayor of San Salvador on March 1, 2015 and took office on May 1, 2015. He won the elections for both public positions under the banner of the left, in the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front.

During his presidency, he was criticized by the opposition, which characterized his policies as dictatorial and fascist, especially after the deployment of the army within the highest legislative body of the Assembly.

Najb Bukele is the son of Olga Ortez de Bukele and Armando Bukele Katana. According to The Times of Israel, Bukele’s grandparents were Palestinian Christians from Jerusalem and Bethlehem, while his maternal grandmother was Catholic and his maternal grandfather was Greek Orthodox.

His father later converted to Islam and became an imam, and his wife has Jewish roots.

Najb started his first company at 18 years old. El Faro writes that Najib Bukele owns Jamaha Motors El Salvador, a company that sells and distributes Jamaha products in El Salvador. He also served as the director and president of OBERMET.

Although he was the son of a Muslim father and a Christian mother, Bukele’s religious beliefs were a controversial subject in the 2019 elections, one of the photos shows him praying at a mosque in Mexico City. “The Times of Israel” published a photo of Bukele in February 2018 “in deep thought on the walls of the Western Wall in ancient Jerusalem.”

Bukele has publicly stated that his family is Roman Catholic and that although his father and several other family members converted to Islam, he is considered to believe in God and not in religions. In a 2015 interview, he said, “I was not a person who believes very much in the liturgy of religions.”

– I believe in God, in Jesus Christ. I believe in his word, I believe in his word revealed in the Holy Bible. And I know that God does not reject anyone because of their origin, “said Bukele.

In a 2019 Facebook post, Bukele stated that “he was not religious.”

He is married to Gabriel Rodríguez, a “psychologist and educator”, and has been married since December 2014. In 2018, Bukele told Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat that Rodríguez had “Sephardic Jewish blood.”

Najib’s brother, Emerson Bukele, is an imam, the spiritual leader of the Islamic Community in El Salvador. He took office in late 2015, succeeding Father Armand Bukele Katan.
