On November 26, 2020, customs agents, in collaboration with the police, seized almost 30,000 euros at the Batrovci crossing, which a passenger tried to transfer across the border without reporting, hiding the bundles of banknotes under the lining of the suitcase with clothes.
The violation was discovered when a “BMW” with Romanian license plates, driven by a 34-year-old man from that country, was singled out for a detailed inspection upon leaving the country.
To the usual question from the customs official about the goods to be reported, the passenger replied that he only carries personal luggage and that there is no cash.
It turned out that this was not true at the beginning of the examination, because euros were found in almost all the pockets of the closet carried by the Romanian citizen.
In addition to the almost 14,000 euros, which he had in the pockets of his jacket and trousers, during a detailed examination of the luggage, bundles of currency in denominations of 50 euros each were also discovered.
Another 25,000 euros were hidden under the lining of one of the suitcases with the wardrobe, which was in the trunk of the car.
The passenger was returned the allowed amount of 10,000 euros, while the remainder was kept until the end of the fault procedure before the competent court.
