The Kotor Court of First Instance convicted an MS under the age of 17, who killed a police officer Maja Šljivančanin (31) on a yacht on the high seas near Budva on July 11 and injured her fiance, Professor Vladimir Stanišić (36), 120 hours of community service. and increased supervision of the social service, after which Stanišić and the family of victim Maja reacted.

– With this decision of the Court of First Instance of Kotor, a clear message was sent to the family of the late Maja Sljivancanin and to me, the wounded Vladimir Stanisic, but also to all citizens of Montenegro, that the personal interest of an individual arrogant is above the interests of society! Furthermore, a message is being sent that the perpetrators of such and similar acts have nothing to shy away from because they are above the law with money and influence in the judiciary, noted the outraged Stanišić, who suffered spinal injuries and the kidneys in the accident.

The sanction imposed, when the consequences of death and the circumstances in which the accident occurred are taken into account, has the character of a reward for the culprit who caused the accident, Stanišić said.
The family of victim Maja also addressed the Montenegrin media, outraged by the verdict.
– For the family, the relationship between such tragic consequences and the loss of our loved one and the punishment of 120 hours of useful work for the person who operated the yacht is incomprehensible. The punishment was pronounced as if some minor crime had been committed without major consequences, and not a young life was extinguished. It is incomprehensible that a shameful verdict was delivered, and that the investigating bodies, as well as the court, did not shed light on all the details of this tragic event. Firstly, who allowed the minor to operate the yacht, who owns the boat, how the minor’s family members are allowed to approach the yacht after the accident and obviously influence the evidence and investigation, the Sljivancanin family claimed.
They add that his “wounds remain incurable because no justice has been done at all.”
– As well as the feeling that the official judicial bodies of Montenegro contribute to this, but also those that participated in the preliminary and subsequent investigation. If this verdict survives, and for us as a family, there is no legal remedy because we cannot appeal, then the public will be left with a strong message that behind such unfair decisions by the Montenegrin judiciary, it does not judge by law but by privilege. and maybe secret connections.
