Yesterday, at the exit of the Gradina border crossing, customs officials prevented an attempt to transport the luxury jeep to Bulgaria without accompanying documentation, the Serbian Customs Administration announced.

The statement said that a Serbian citizen (42) from Subotica arrived at the exit of the Gradina junction around 10 pm in the company of his wife, driving a passenger van with a trailer loaded with a jeep without license plates.

Considering that these are cars worth more than 40,000 euros, customs agents suspected that such a valuable vehicle does not have a regular or temporary registration.

“The car was not reported properly, because the spouses, when asked by customs officials what they had to report for customs control, they said that they had nothing and that they were just transporting the car on a trailer from Subotica to Bulgaria, where they intend to register it, “the statement said.

Then, the customs official asked them what they had of the documentation of the car they were transporting, since since there is no license plate, they must show the corresponding export or transit document.

They said they did not have any of the documents mentioned by the customs official, but they did have an invoice from Hungary and a photocopy of the canceled traffic license of the loaded car.

After customs asked what was wrong with the plates, the driver said the temporary “ZOLL” plates expired a long time ago and that they were at his home in Subotica, which practically means the car was illegally in the country.

Otherwise, the used cars that are imported into the country must have the call. Temporary plates whose validity is limited to only a few days and are used so that the vehicle can pass through customs at the nearest customs office as soon as possible. If the importer fails to do so within the prescribed period, the car is duty-free and thus an illegal product that cannot be registered or even used.

The assumption of experienced customs officials is that the driver “recalculated” and did not meet the deadline for customs clearance, created an additional problem that he tried to solve by illegally exporting to a neighboring country. the jeep and the associated keys were temporarily detained for failing to report, until the end of the misdemeanor proceeding that was initiated against this passenger, ”the statement added.
