DM (21) from Smederevo was detained on suspicion that she had left her minor son, just two years old, alone and locked in the apartment for days.
According to the police, DM was handcuffed on suspicion of having committed the crime of neglect and abuse of a minor.
– The investigation is in charge of the Basic Public Ministry, and the threat of punishment for this crime is up to three years in prison – says the source.
Grandma called the police
According to the source, his mother informed the police that DM was neglecting her son. – A young woman lives alone with a child and is a single mother. The boy’s grandmother, who lives at another address, came to visit them from time to time. As I heard, a few days ago he called on the phone, but his daughter did not answer the calls – says the neighbor DM and adds: – The grandmother was worried, so she went to her daughter’s apartment to see what was wrong with her. She found the door locked, and since she had the key, she opened it and found her grandson inside. The boy was wet and dirty, because he urinated and urinated, was crying and was apparently hungry, says the source.
He adds that the grandmother stayed in the apartment for a while, waiting for her daughter to come, and since that did not happen, she decided to call the police.
– After the report, the police managed to find DM and they were detained for up to 48 hours. It is suspected that she left her son alone in a closed house for several days, says the source.
DM’s acquaintances say that it is not the first time that he has locked up the child and leaves, as they say, who knows where. – She lives alone in the apartment, we have never seen her husband, we think he did not even get married. She behaves a little more freely – says the neighbor and continues: – Unfortunately, this is not the first time. It had happened before and the boy cried for hours. Everything would be wet. Well, he doesn’t even know how to sit on a stretcher and carry water to eat or drink – says a neighbor.

As he says, it is a true miracle that the boy was not injured while he was alone in the house.
– He could do anything. He could have put something in the socket or turned off the water and made a flood, fell through the window, grabbed a knife … Well, better not even think about what could have happened – added the interlocutor. Our source says that the abandoned child is fortunately in good health and the Social Work Center was informed about the case.
A case of Knjaževac A baby died of hunger
The child neglect case that shook Serbia the most occurred two years ago, when a three-month-old baby died in Knjaževac. Then criminal charges were brought against Father Darko Ђ. (35) and mother Milica J. (30) for the crime of mistreatment and abandonment of a minor. The investigation established that the child died of hunger and the court proceedings against the parents have not yet been completed.
