Goran Ostojić (19) from Podlokanje near Novi Kneževci drowned in front of his brothers and others on Saturday afternoon in the wild pool of the lake from which sand is pumped near the town of Čoka.
Yesterday there was silence and disbelief in the courtyard of the Ostojić family home, and the inconsolable mother Daliborka and the brother of victim Goran were crying all the time.
Struck with his hands
– On Saturday I went swimming with Goran, another brother and another. The four of us drove to the lake around 3 pm First I went into the water, and then our friend Božo. We told Goran not to go into the lake, because he cannot swim and there are holes in the bottom. Still, he entered the water up to his stomach. Suddenly he slipped and sank. Only the hands he struck with could be seen on the surface. Somehow our older brother Dalibor managed to catch up with him, but Goran started pulling him too. Dalibor was captured by his friend Božo; Bojan Ostojić recounts how his brother drowned in front of his eyes.

As he says, two young men couldn’t stay with Goran.
– Everything happened fast. Goran just disappeared suddenly – Bojan said with great difficulty.
Milan Ostojić, the victim’s uncle, says his nephew Dalibor called him on the phone and told him what had happened.
– With four other people, I got in the car and headed to the lake. The road from our people to Montenegro is very bad. When we arrived, Darko Jovetic from Podlokan immediately entered the water and dived. He found Goran’s body about six feet deep. We made a chain and pulled it out. The ambulance team could only declare death, Milan said.
My heart sank
It was also difficult for the mother of the deceased young man, who said through tears that her son went to that lake for the first time on Saturday.
– You’re not lucky. Something kept dragging him to go swimming there. He insisted on going, so the older brothers and a friend, at Goran’s insistence, gave in and left – says mother Daliborka and continues:
– Around 3.30 pm, I tried to get my kids to talk on the phone, but no one answered I felt that something was wrong, because they always responded neatly. When an ambulance pulled up in front of our house a bit later, my heart skipped a beat.

At the entrance to the lake, which is located not far from the Banat village of Crna Bara near Choka, there is an inscription: “Private property. No entry and bathing.” However, people are still trying to find salvation from the hot here.
– Goran’s older brother told him not to enter the water. The moment he went to the car to get his cigarettes, there was a groan. Božo shouted: “Dalibor, Dalibor, save me! Goran is drowning “- says Goran.

He was supposed to become a cook
Daliborka Ostojić says that her son was a boy, for example.
– He ended up as a cook, but worked as a construction worker in Novi Kneževci. He should have become a cook and passed the driving test, says the mother in tears.
