George has been a mountaineer for two decades, Dingo has been with him for seven years, love was born from day one and confirmed in mid-December, writes Srpskainfo.

On December 6, George went up to Volujak with mountaineers and Dingo accompanied him. It was bad weather, snow and ice and the dog stayed at one point.

– As it is large and has large legs, it did not fall because of the snow, it was cold and we hurried back to the mountain lodge. He stayed in one place, could not continue on the ice. I immediately went back to look for him a few kilometers, it was foggy and I couldn’t find him – George recounts his agony after realizing that Dinga was gone.

He says that he went back to his friend the next day, but the weather was bad again, they arrived at the place where he stayed, they called him, but there was no success.

“Then we went back to the mountain lodge and waited there for two days hoping it would come down,” recalls George.

By car, I toured the places where I could possibly go down, from Čemerno and other places in the municipality I guess, I also informed my friends in Foča and in all directions where there was a presumption that I could appear.

The story had a happy ending on December 16 on top of Mount Volujak, 2,336 meters above sea level.

– That was the third try. The previous two times there was fog, the second time I walked maybe a hundred meters past Ding, but I didn’t see him, and he didn’t respond out of fear. The third time the weather was better, I went to the mountain lodge, slept and went back up to the top. I saw the clues, I called him, he didn’t answer out of fear, and at one point he just raised his head. When he realized that it was me, he jumped and the happiness was endless: this Gačanin ends his story with a happy ending.

George says he has never given up hope of finding his pet, despite the bad weather and the danger from wolves. The Bernardine may go without food for about 15 days, but it cannot do without water, and it was snow and ice that helped Ding survive.
