The Prijepolje ambulance team was only able to declare the death of SH of Brodarevo, 21, the other afternoon, when a huge beech tree fell while cutting trees in a forest in the village of Milakovići with his colleagues.
The accident occurred on Sunday shortly after 3:00 p.m. in difficult-to-access terrain 13 kilometers from Brodarevo.
With two colleagues from a company that deals with logging and processing, SH spent the night in Milakovići. It was his job, an acquaintance of the unfortunate young man told “Blic”, to cut and uproot trees in the state forest that had grown from their weight and fallen from their roots. Due to the complexity of the work and the terrain, they arrived in Milakovići with a tractor and bulldozer that cleared the land into the forest for logging.
After the felling of some trees, it was the turn of a huge beech – it turned out to be a fatal EH – with a diameter of 70 centimeters, which was located on the slope above the stream.
– Due to the thickness of the letter, SH had to approach from all sides to cut it. At the end of the last cut, while waiting for the tree to fall on one side, it turned and fell on the other, right over the logger and pressed it. The beech tree was more than 20 meters high, he had no chance to escape from it – says our interlocutor.
SH was hit to the head in the middle when he died on the spot. Hoping he was still alive, his colleagues tried to help him out from under the tree, but it was difficult to move him. As they later recounted, EH simply disappeared under a tree in an instant.
Meanwhile, they called an ambulance, which arrived in Milakovići from Prijepolje, 40 kilometers away, but was unable to do anything. The investigation in the Milakovići forest lasted until late at night, when SH’s body was transferred to the Prijepolje hospital. Doctors claimed that the young man from Brodarevo suffered a fracture of the spinal vertebra from a blow to the head and that there were no other injuries, but the competent prosecutor’s office still suggested an autopsy.
– For three years, he worked in a timber exploitation and processing company, which covers the entire Brodatevo region and which handles the most difficult tasks related to felling and extraction of trees. He was a good, hardworking and educated guy. He supported his sick father and mother with the heavy dinar he earned. Nobody thinks he’s gone.
