N1 Television journalist Zaklina Tatalovic gave an interview to the German state television ZDF and presented a series of accusations and falsehoods against the state of Serbia. From his words, but also from a very tendentiously edited television report, the impression is created that it is a country of a totalitarian regime ruled by dictatorship and fear, and that Serbia is a country where journalists are completely deprived of their rights, they are prevented from working and from asking a question to the representatives of the authorities, and that they were even beaten!
The truth, however, is quite different. The journalist Zaklina Tatalovic agreed to participate in a propaganda report against the state of Serbia, which was presented unilaterally, used videos taken out of context and the events were reported selectively.
Data manipulation
That is, there is talk of beating journalists in the protest against measures to suppress the coronavirus, which took place this summer, and a video is shown showing the police beating the hooligans as a cover. This obviously omits a key fact: the journalists were beaten, but not by the state, that is, by members of the MUP, but the field reporters were injured by hooligans who participated in the protest. This propaganda note was missing another important piece of information, which only confirms the subjective and unilateral view, and that is that no one emphasized that the attacks were suffered by journalists from various newsrooms, including several Kurir journalists. So it’s not true that the attacks were intentionally targeted at so-called opposition journalists, and that someone would intimidate them because of the way they work, but the hooligans’ attacks were sadly also suffered by unnecessary fellow editors and passionate critics.
Without the other side
Another controversial revision of the German television report in which Tatalović participated is the part about information about hospitals in Serbia and treatment conditions. The images show gruesome scenes from a nameless hospital, where patients lie incapacitated, with scattered elements leaving an image of inhumane conditions. At the same time, it is stated that journalist Ana Lalic from the Nova S portal was detained because, according to what they said, “due to her report on the unsustainable condition in a hospital, she allegedly caused panic. It is true, however, that Ana Lalic’s report on the situation in KBC Vojvodina in early April, at a time when the state of emergency is throughout the country and when the corona epidemic has begun, and the fear of the citizens was great, it was extremely biased. Without verifying it, he released the news to the public that the situation in this institution is very bad, and that the employees do not have protective equipment. This also happens when coronavirus crisis staff sit down daily and answer all questions from journalists. After his text message, KCV denied the accusations, and documented everything with data about the situation in that institution, which showed that they had no problem in their work.
However, for the report in which Zaklina Tatalović participated, which was posted on ZDF, there is no information on the real reason for the arrest, nor on the denial of KCV, but the procedure of the informative conversation is scandalous, without these facts are expressed.
An obvious lie
Furthermore, as perhaps the most obvious falsehood, which all viewers can confirm, Zaklina Tatalović claimed that “the microphone was taken away” at press conferences and that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić “constantly avoids his questions.” Here it is more than clear that this is not true, considering that Zaklina Tatalović is one of the most active in press conferences and that she almost always asks a question, which the public has the opportunity to hear. This is demonstrated by the posts on Twitter, which Tatalović posted personally, showing off his journalistic skills and what he asked the president. However, if she doesn’t like his answers, it certainly doesn’t mean that he avoids her questions, as stated. The video, which was practically aimed at shaming Serbia in the world, was also broadcast on H1 Television with the title “There is a great fear in Serbia to speak openly.” This in itself is contradictory, taking into account the fact that there are a large number of media outlets in Serbia that constantly criticize all government movements and have the right to report as they wish and to create their own editorial policy. Among them is Television N1, then Nova S, Newsmax Adria, which otherwise operate within Dragan Šolak’s United Group.
