The US President’s special envoy for the negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, Richard Grenel, said that last week’s negotiations at the White House were difficult and that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was “a very difficult negotiator” .
“One thing I want to emphasize is that President Vučić was a very difficult negotiator, he is really fighting for his Serbian people, and we hope for that. We hope that people will come and fight for their citizens,” Grenel said in an interview with Serbia Radio. Chicago , led by Olga Ravasi, chair of the Serbs for Trump 2020 initiative.
“The negotiations were difficult and both parties were satisfied, but both expected much more. And when that happens, it is a good way to show that the negotiations were difficult,” added the US diplomat.
Grenel said the United States decided to open the American Development Fund office in Belgrade because of the amount of work and the number of projects, and not because of the symbolism.
“We try not to deal with symbolism, not political symbolism, which many politicians are faced with … Our position is to focus enough people on that, but not enough people focus on economic development, like new jobs.” he said in an interview broadcast Monday.
According to him, Trump would be very happy to visit Serbia and the region.
“We still do not have dates or details, but we have already overcome the first obstacle, and that is that the White House officially agrees with that,” Grenel added.
Grenelle reiterated that Trump, as an outsider, tried to tackle the problem of Serbia and Kosovo, which has lasted more than 20 years, in a different way, ignoring the political problems that too many people have been grappling for two decades, but without success.
When asked whether the United States would ensure the implementation of the agreement, including the protection of all religious shrines and monuments in Kosovo, as well as whether there are plans to restore some that were destroyed in the past, Grenel said “that level of detail” has not yet been reached.
“Of course the United States will be there to help, but we have the philosophy that the process should be led by the people, the people of the region, the Serbian people … the people who are there, living and working … We don’t want to impose our rules or opinions, “He said.
But, he added, if the United States is asked to help fund a program or project, then they must be involved in how that money will be spent.
“We will not write a blank check and give it. If they ask us to help financially, we will get involved in how the money will be spent, who will control it and where it will go. If we do not pay something, we are ready to help, but then we want people to lead, not impose our ideas, “Grenel said in an interview with the president of the Serbs for Trump 2020 initiative, which called on Serbs in the United States to help re-elect Trump as president.
