ROAD TRAVEL AGENCIES BANKRUPTCY: Greeks don't open the border, and what about passengers and paid arrangements?

Greece has not yet opened its borders to Serbian citizens and, judging by the poor development of the bad epidemiological picture, many agencies already claim that bankruptcies are something that will be inevitable.

Despite state aid and the payment of a total of 6 minimums for each of the workers, many agencies barely make ends meet because they have not earned a dinar for months. Many were looking forward to the next season at the same time, but considering the prognosis for the continuation of the epidemic, optimism is waning. In such circumstances, the question is whether there are solutions for your future, but also what will happen to the money paid and the arrangements.

“There is no interest or possibility to organize trips to Greece, since the epidemiological situation at the moment is not only in Greece, but also in Serbia as it is. Objectively, the situation is difficult and it is difficult to solve it rationally. In such circumstances, the question is whether the agencies that still survive without a dinar of income can survive another year ”, says the director of the National Association of Serbian Tourism Organizations (JUTA), Aleksandar Senicic, for“ Blic Biznis ”.

The agreements for Greece are the most threatened because Greece, as a destination, is the most sought after in our market. Additionally, the highest number of replacement vouchers were issued for that destination. And when all of that is seen and summed up, it is also questionable how realistic it is to expect a money back from Greek partners.

“So far, there are no new payments and what was paid on March 15 was given replacement trips and is being resolved in accordance with the Decree adopted. The Greeks also have an obligation to return that money to our agencies early next year, if that is not done during this year, so we also forecast that when that money arrives, we will return it to passengers. If there is no season, the big question is whether all of that will be feasible. We can’t predict that, “Senicic warns.

Senicic says that it is also difficult for the Greeks, because “they certainly spent the money they received.”

“At the same time, it opens up the possibility that these hotels or private villas go bankrupt because they cannot survive, and what will we do then … These are all issues that we started with the embassy and the ministry of Greece, and we are looking for a solution, “Senicic says.

It should also be noted that the money-back process by insurance companies is not straightforward. The amount of the reimbursement depends on several facts: the amount of the insured sum, the type of license, the value of the sold arrangements covered by the insurance. Therefore, the refund can be 50 percent or less, which means that the passenger can count on that percentage of the amount paid.

Some agents say that for the survival of the agencies, it is important to ensure the entry of our tourists to Greece, preferably unconditionally, or to define the precise conditions for the entry of tourists as soon as possible. Otherwise, it is almost impossible for agencies to survive, say the agents, speaking of the best possible scenario for both agencies and workers, but also passengers.

“Insurance companies are now avoiding for fear that the realization will not occur due to kovida-19, and the second reason is that many travel agencies did not even pay the previous insurance deposit. It is also the reason why some ‘famous agencies’ went bankrupt, so the insurance companies paid more or less damages to consumers, and those same agencies, that is, their owners, opened other agencies and continued to operate. A classic fraud against both consumers as against insurance companies, “says Goran Papović of the National Consumer Organization, pointing to a disturbing fact:

“When you add the value of the paid arrangements, the travel agencies, with the sum insured with the insurance companies, and divide it by the number of passengers, you get that you cannot get more than 15 euros per agreement. Translated, 100 euros paid now are worth 15 euros “.

It warns that there is a lack of serious controls and serious punishment for offenders, that is, fraudsters.
