Gorenje closes factory in Zajecar

The factory, as declared by the company “Gorenje”, has been operating with significant losses for a long time.

The “Gorenje” management is negotiating intensively with two potential partners who would rent or buy production space and capacities and allow the re-hiring of workers at the Zajecar factory as soon as possible.

“We hope that these negotiations will be completed very soon. Both interested partners intend to expand their businesses, so that more workers can find work in this factory than we do at the moment. This is perhaps the best team of employees that has ‘Gorenje Group’, and that is why the decision to withdraw from production was very difficult for us, “stated the director of” Gorenje Home “Zajecar, Vlado Krebs.

He added that the decision to suspend production has nothing to do with the current pandemic.

“It is the result of significant losses this factory has, as well as Gorenje’s strategic decision to focus on the core home appliance business and withdraw from all others, such as home appliance production,” he explains.

In a conversation with the representatives of the representative union, an agreement was reached on all the important elements of the termination of the employment contract and the severance pay for 102 employees at the Zajecar factory.

The factory started operating in 2011.

“Gorenje Home” in Zajecar started operating in 2011, when it bought the company “Porcelan”. The main portfolio in the last two years has been the production of sinks, drains and sanitary equipment.

Despite investments of more than 10 million euros invested in equipment and infrastructure in the last nine years, this factory has failed to guarantee the sustainability of its operations.

In the previous two years, during the implementation of the strategic plan for the gradual exit from secondary activities, the parent company in Slovenia sold the waste processing company Maribor “Gorenje sirovina” and its branches to the company “Eko sirovina”, as well such as the “Gorenje Tiki” boiler factory of Stara Care.

“Hisens Gorenje”, as indicated in the announcement, remains committed to plans to strengthen market positions in the main business field: the production of household appliances.

The factory in Valjevo continues to be the production center for “Hisens Gorenje” refrigeration devices for Europe, and in the next period it is planned to increase production volume and expand capacity.
