Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić today visited the GSP Karaburma plant and announced that the plan is for the city to purchase a total of 500 new articulated buses over the next five years and continue to improve the material status of drivers.

Vesić said that during New Year’s Eve, around 1,200 Belgrade communal system workers were on duty and were working independently of the holidays.

– Every time the New Year comes around, I want to spend time with them because they are true heroes of our city. If it weren’t for them, this city wouldn’t work the way it does, says Vesić.

According to the deputy mayor, he especially likes public transport drivers and GSP, because, as he himself says, that company is one of the most important and best in the city, and that many times before it was underestimated.

– I am very happy that in recent years we have completely changed City’s attitude towards GSP and once again it is becoming one of our best companies, with all the problems it has and for which it is often not to blame “says Vesić.

He mentioned that one of the last decisions of the Serbian Government last year was to hire 128 drivers in GSP.

– Today we have 2,938 drivers, of which 657 are drivers with a temporary employment contract. Today we are missing about 100 drivers. A few years ago, that number was much higher and even exceeded 300 – said Vesić.

That, he says, is because working conditions have improved, new buses have been purchased and drivers have better wages.

Vesić stated that the average salary for a GSP driver is around 74,000 dinars with all benefits, and in 2012 it was 48,000 dinars.

He says there will certainly be money for better driver salaries at GSP if the economy is stronger and the city’s finances are better.

– Now we can say with certainty that those salaries are worthy of a man and that they are already stimulating enough that they do not have to leave the country at all costs, but they can stay here – says Vesić.

He also stated that more than 30 pilots have returned to GSP and that this is important because it shows that as a country we are becoming competitive.

– President Aleksandar Vučić promised an average salary in Serbia of 900 euros by 2025. When the average salary in Serbia is 900 euros, in Belgrade it will be 1,100 euros, which means that public transport drivers will surely have 800 to 900 euros. It will be a salary that people can live on normally, and that shows how the economy is growing – Vesić said.

He thanked the GSP drivers for their hard work and told them that the City of Belgrade takes care of them.

He announced that 100 new articulated buses will be acquired this year and recalled that last year the decision was made that in the future all vehicles purchased by the City will be electric, hybrid or natural gas.

– We will also buy 10 electric buses. Our plan is to buy 100 new buses each year for the next five years. When we do achieve this, urban transport will be capable and will be the most modern transporter in Belgrade, Vesić said.

The purchase of 100 new articulated buses, Vesić says, means that most of the “Japanese” now entering their eighteenth year will slowly go down in history, and when 500 new buses are purchased in the next five years, the average age of the GSP fleet will be only a few years old. it will be in the European average.

He stated that even now, the buses in GSP are more modern than the private ones and the working conditions are better than the private ones.

– We have shown that a state company can do better than some private companies – says Vesić.

GSP union president Zoran Antić expressed his satisfaction with the Deputy Mayor’s visit to the GSP plant in Karburma, noting that this is an indicator of how much the city of Belgrade cares about the safety and comfort of transport users and affirmed that a lot is invested in that company.

– It is important for us to improve working conditions, acquire new vehicles and increase the material status of drivers and employees at GSP – says Antić.

After a good trip, Vesić had breakfast with the GSP drivers.
