The body of Serbian Patriarch Irinej will be on display tomorrow at the Cathedral of the Holy Archangel Michael in Belgrade, and then it will be transferred to the Church of Saint Sava in Vracar, where believers will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The transfer of the coffin from the Cathedral to the Church of St. Sava is scheduled for 11.30, and the detailed schedule of the funeral program of Patriarch Irinej is also known:

Saturday November 21

8.30 – Reception of the earthly remains of the Patriarch in front of the Patriarchate and entrance to the Patriarchal Palace. Members of the RS army will carry the coffin to the Palace and then transfer it to the Cathedral.

8.35 – A small memorial service in the room of the Patriarchal Court

9.00 am – Holy Liturgy in the Cathedral (ministers: Metropolitan of Chrysostom of Dobrobosna, Bishop of ŠVD, Bishops: Mr. Jovan of Šumadija and Mr. David of Kruševac, archpriests – archpriests-staturophores: Branko Mitrović, Branko Topalović, Božobor and Bakajbor Mr. Petar Lukić, deacons: Radomir Perčević and Damjan Božić)

11.30 – Transfer of the coffin from the Cathedral to the Temple of San Sava. Members of the RS army will line up in front of the temple and the Belgrade priests inside the temple.

12.30 pm – A small memorial service at the Temple of San Sava.

Next, the priests of Belgrade will read the Holy Gospel on stage until the requiem liturgy (the deputies will determine the time).

The coffin will be covered with a mandia, a small omophorion and a miter (no scepter).

Sunday November 22

9.00 – Holy Funeral Liturgy (served by HRH Metropolitan Chrysostorm’s Vicar and the current Hierarchs, 12 priests and four deacons appointed by Bishop Stefan and Fr. Vladaimir Vukašinović).

His Eminence Bishop Irinej of Bačka will speak at the liturgy.

11.00 – After the liturgy, the service. Hierarchs will serve without mitres, in panakamilavkas.

After the service, he will say: On behalf of the priests of Belgrade, Archpriest-Staurophore Petar Lukić will bid farewell to the Patriarch. The vicar – HRH Metropolitan Chrysostom, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and the President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik.

The priests in the epitaphs will carry the coffin to the crypt of the Temple, the priests will be appointed by Bishop Stefan and Fr. Vladimir Vukašinović.

The choir of the Temple of Saint Sava and the choir “Branko” of Nis will sing in the sacred liturgy and in the service.

The transmission of the Sacred Liturgy and the Mass in RTS will be commented by the archpriest-saurophore prof. Dr. Vladimir Vukašinović.

Patriarch Irinej passed away on Friday at the age of 90. The news of Patriarch Irinej’s death came after 15 days of a tough fight with the corona virus, which the patriarch lost because his health suddenly deteriorated overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

Bodyless kissing

Citizens may say goodbye to the patriarch, but with respect to special epidemiological measures.

According to the Crisis Staff recommendations, it will not be possible to kiss the patriarch’s body. People will be able to enter the temple through the central entrance, approach a few meters, bow and go outside.

“We call on all believers to wear masks, not to stay and not make crowds,” appealed the priest Dragan Shovljanski.
