From April to October, 4,011 more people died than in the same period of 2019

The number of deaths in Serbia in the period from April 1 to October 31, 2020, in which the coronavirus epidemic officially claimed 797 lives, is up to 4,011 higher compared to the same period of the year past, or 3,727 compared to the average number of deaths. in the previous ten years, they show data from the Office of Statistics of the Republic (SBS).

The SSO announced that in the period January-October 2020, the number of deaths reached 86,798, which is 2,630 (3.1 percent) more compared to the same period last year, when the number of deaths was 84,168 .

The biggest difference in the number of deaths compared to 2019 was recorded in July, when 10,023 deaths were recorded, with a “surplus of deaths” of up to 1,701 compared to the same month last year (8,322 deaths).

According to official statistics based on the month of registration in death registries, 8,353 deaths were recorded in October 2020, 88 less than in the same month last year, when 8,441 citizens of Serbia died.

By way of comparison, in the period from 2010 to 2019, the average number of deaths in the tenth month was 8,477, 124 more than that registered this October.

The number of live births in 2020, as of October 31, is 51,753 and represents a decrease of 1,329 (2.5 percent) compared to the same period last year, when the number of live births was 53,082.
