A French hospital repeated tests on old samples from patients suffering from pneumonia and found that an infected man was positive for the corona virus not earlier than December 27, almost a month before the French government officially confirmed the first cases of the infection.

The head of the northern Paris hospital, Yves Cohen, told BFM TV that the scientists repeated the tests on a sample of 24 patients who were treated in December and January, whose tests were negative for the flu.

“Of 24, we had one that tested positive for covid-19 disease on December 27,” said Cohen.

He added that each sample was retested multiple times to rule out the possibility of error.

France, which has so far killed more than 25,000 people with the coronavirus, has confirmed the first three cases of covid-19 disease since March 1, just January 24. Officially, these are the first cases of coronavirus in Europe, and they were two patients in Paris and one not far from the city of Bordeaux.

Cohen says it is too early to say whether the patient, whose test was positive on December 27, is a French zero patient, but he claims that patient survived.

“He was sick for 15 days and infected his two children, but not the woman who works in the supermarket. He was delighted, he did not understand how he became infected. We put together the puzzle and discovered that he was not traveling.” The only contact he had was with his own wife, who worked near a sushi stall, near a colleague of Chinese descent, “said Cohen.

However, it is not yet known whether the Chinese worker traveled to China, which should be investigated by local institutions, Cohen added.
