Former Serbian Ambassador to Canada Tried to Smuggle 97 Bottles of Alcohol!

[ad_1]

Former Serbian Ambassador to Canada Mihailo Papazoglu attempted to illegally transfer 97 bottles of alcoholic beverages from Canada to Serbia on September 3, worth around 3,300 euros, as well as two framed photographs and 12 posters, Kurir learned! unofficially!

The Serbian diplomat tried to smuggle the drinks by hiding them between personal items and clothes, but customs agents stopped him, who confiscated all the drinks!

By inspecting the customs certificate on temporary retention of goods, our newspaper was convinced that all the goods on the list of seized goods are extremely valuable.

– Papazoglu returned to Serbia immediately after the expiration of his term, back in June, and a private company moved his belongings. His belongings arrived in a container in Serbia on September 3 and, before moving, he presented a list of moving items to customs officials. However, at customs, they discovered 97 bottles of drinks, a picture with a frame and posters, which he did not report and for which he had no proof of origin – our source states and adds:

– The drink was probably sent from the embassy, it was hidden in shoe boxes. Some bottles were also in the locker room, taken out of the boxes. If I had an account and reported it to authorities, nothing would have been moot. It was reckless in the actions of the customs officers, revealed a source informed about this fact.

Papazoglu did not respond to our emailed calls and questions. Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told Kurir that he is not responsible for the behavior of the former ambassador, who must bear the consequences if it is proven that he violated the law.

– Everything that someone does outside of his service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, must bear all the consequences of such actions. Papazoglu was removed from the post of ambassador and returned to the country, says Dacic.

According to the assessment of a Belgrade liquor trader, who does not want us to give his name, the former ambassador brought alcohol, which, according to the national price list, reaches a minimum value of about 3,300 euros, or about 385,000 dinars. Among the strong bottles is the 41 year old whiskey.

– Keep in mind that we do not have details of in which year the drink was produced, so we estimate the lowest prices. And it should be noted that the prices of alcoholic beverages in Canada are drastically higher than in Serbia. It is possible that this list of drinks is much more valuable than the price we are estimating – says our interlocutor.
