“FORGET THE TRAVEL FOR THE NEW YEAR” Dr. Tiodorović: We have the most difficult week ahead!

What the numbers will be, he adds, depends exclusively on people’s behavior, on measures, on whether they are respected, implemented, controlled …

– Until the vaccine arrives, we must be aware that the virus is all around us, and even when the vaccine appears, we cannot expect to be protected immediately because it is impossible to vaccinate the entire population at once, so it is necessary time to normalize, and that’s there until the end of next year – notes Tiodorović.

A time of glory and celebration

As the professor explains, although we have the vaccine at this time, we cannot expect that everything will be resolved in a short time, because it takes time to protect against the virus, and it is administered in two doses, the second after 21 to 30 days.

– There are always risks and that is why we must take care of how we behave. Now is the glory period, so celebrate only in the family circle, only the family. If you are planning a trip, anywhere, especially around the New Year, forget it, postpone everything. If we want to return to normality, if we want to suppress the virus, we must act responsibly and appropriately, all without exception. As for the vaccine, we need it, but it also takes time. We must be aware that the vaccine will lead to herd immunity, but we cannot vaccinate the entire nation at once. There will be people who will not be able to receive the vaccine for various reasons, there will be people under 18 years of age for whom the vaccine is not intended … The vaccine is important, necessary, we are waiting for it, but until then we must rigorously adhere to current measures – said Professor Tiodorović.

Measurement results for 14 days

For the measurements to work, it takes seven to 14 days. The ones that were recently adopted at first glance show that they do not work because the numbers are jumping more and more day by day, but only seven days have passed since then. In the first place, the members of the Crisis Staff decided to work only at gas stations and pharmacies until 9:00 p.m. on December 1, while everything would be closed, while on the other hand, the Government of Serbia prescribed seven protection measures against the spread of the coronavirus , which will be applied. as of next Tuesday, and the biggest change is the shortening of the working hours of the catering facilities to 18.00.

The period until December 1 is sufficient to show in which direction the measures will be taken, and it is always possible to tighten the measures. As he explained, Professor Tiodorović faces a serious task, and we can expect an increase in the number of infected people in the coming days, which is what is happening.

Move school holidays

– This upward trend will continue in the next few days, but after that we expect to have a slight setback at the end of the month, and in December there will be a slowdown in the growth trend and a slow calm. Even then, there will be new peaks, so I suggested that the winter break be moved from February, to the December period, from December 20 to January 20, because that will include both Orthodox and Catholic holidays, explained Professor Tiodorović.

The reform of the Law for the Protection of the Population against Infectious Diseases allows the inclusion of a greater number of people who will control if the measures are respected, which is of great importance now that new measures have been adopted.

– When we adopt some measures, people must adhere to them, but there must also be control over all that, if it is carried out as prescribed. Now we have more people who will control it, so it will be seen exactly how much the measures are respected, if they are respected, if we are disciplined, we can have a result – says Professor Tiodorović.
