According to the “Blic” reporter, the fire did not occur in the apartment, but the fireplace caught fire.

Although firefighters had to approach the building from Knez Mihailova Street, this part of the promenade is passable, so the belgraders can walk without obstacles.

The building on the corner of Knez Mihailova and Obilićev venac was erected as the property of Milutin Antonijević, one of the wealthy heirs of the famous Belgrade jewelry “Braća S. Antonijević”. Construction started in 1922 and was interrupted for a while, and was completed in 1926. The construction project was carried out by the Belgrade architect Pera Popović, who was on the team of the architectural bureau “Architect”, under the direction of Dragiša Brašovan, Starogradski reported.

Building in Knez Mihailova 7

The Knez Mihailova 7 building was built on the site where the building with the store of the same name used to be. The plot was bought in 1890 by Milutin’s father, Max, from Aleksa Krsmanović. The new building was designed in the spirit of academism with elements of Viennese Art Nouveau. It had steam heating, with six apartments on each of the floors, offices and a restaurant on the ground floor, which inherited the name “Tsar of Russia”. Below the cafe was another room, “Variety”, with a different program.
