BELGRADE – A fire broke out in a residential building on Jevrejska Street in the center of Pirot, in which an apartment burned down completely and two people were injured.
All the tenants were evacuated. The fire started engulfing the apartment around 12 o’clock today.
For almost two hours, the fire was extinguished and the tenants were evacuated by more than 20 firefighters with seven fire trucks. Comrades from the surrounding municipalities, as well as members of the police, came to the aid of Pirot firefighters and rescuers. All tenants were evacuated safely despite the heavy smoke.
The third-floor apartment, in which the fire broke out, burned down completely and firefighters successfully prevented further spread of the fire.
However, with superhuman efforts, the firefighters managed to evacuate all the endangered tenants of the building with “full combat equipment”, oxygen masks. For those in a more serious condition, doctors provided help on the spot.
