The four-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries when, in the absence of his parents, he decided to “try” the escalator in Moscow’s “Global City” shopping center. The situation was noticed by a security camera, and a shocking video shows the boy holding the handrail to the top.
Unable to climb to safety, he fell from a height of 20 meters into a cafe located under the stairs and suffered head and chest injuries. The woman, believed to be the mother of the unfortunate child, rushed to the crash site immediately.
– Taking advantage of the moment of inattention of the parents, the child ran towards the escalator that led from the ground floor to the first floor. He grabbed the outside of the rubber fence with his hands and climbed to the level of the first floor, and then fell on the working part of the cafe, sustaining injuries, a source from the mall told Moscow media.
The four-year-old boy is in intensive care at a Moscow hospital due to an open head wound, a broken skull, an internal chest wound and a bruise on his lungs.
– The boy received the necessary attention, while the police authorities are working on the details of the incident – explained Julia Ivanova, an official of the Investigation Committee of Russia, adding that the authorities are conducting an initial investigation into the case.
Witnesses were heard, as well as the boy’s parents, who could face a lawsuit.
