18:59 – The Prime Minister stated that the Serbian Government hopes this will be understood as an act of goodwill.

18:58 – – The first reason for this decision is regional stability, friendship and partnership with Montenegro, and the second important reason is that up to 30% of the population of Montenegro are Serbs – said Brnabić.

18:57 – The Prime Minister stated that she regretted the review of history that is underway in Montenegro, and above all the fact that Serbia, as the greatest victim of the First World War, presents itself as an occupier.

18:55 – Serbia agrees with the statement of Ambassador Božović for which he was expelled, as well as 50 percent of Montenegrin citizens. This declaration, in which he repeatedly calls for brotherhood and reconciliation, cannot be a basis for expulsion – said the Prime Minister.

18:54 – The Serbian Government took this decision at the initiative of the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and after consultations with the Serbs of Montenegro, Ana Brnabić declared.

18:53 – Serbia withdrew the decision to expel the Montenegrin ambassador!

18:51 – The president of Serbia invited us to talk to consult on this decision. The President supports it and understands it, Serbia reacted normally and in an exemplary manner, in accordance with the Vienna Convention. The president told us that conventions are important, but that life is more important, as well as our friendship with Montenegro – said Brnabić.

The president, prime minister, and head of Serbian diplomacy also discussed other foreign policy issues, mainly relations with the countries of the region. The meeting came one day after Montenegro declared Serbian ambassador Vladimir Bozovic persona non grata in that country, due to, as explained, continued interference in Montenegro’s internal affairs.

Last night, Serbia responded with a reciprocal measure, denying Montenegrin Ambassador Tarzan Milosevic hospitality.

The president scheduled the meeting in an attempt to ease tensions, in line with his regional policy, which has always adhered to the idea that Serbia must take care not to aggravate the position of Serbs in the countries of the region.
