The third wave of the corona virus has hit our country earlier than expected and, according to some forecasts, it will last longer than the previous two, even until mid-April, local experts say. The darkest thing about these forecasts is that in two weeks we will have more infected and dead than we had in the first two waves combined!
Such a rapid spread of the infection is “helped” by cold weather, affecting viruses, then staying indoors, but also the large number of infected people that will infect thousands of people in the next period, they say. The experts.
Kocovic: We will be under the crown for six months
That this wave we are on will last the longest, was confirmed for “Informer” by our famous mathematician Petar Kočović.
– The third wave began on September 14 and, according to the latest data, will last until the second half of April. This means that we will be under attack by the corona virus for up to six months. Neither the first nor the second waves lasted that long. This is because the virus is stronger and much more infected. I think we will break another infamous record in fifteen days, so we will have more infected citizens in the third wave than in the first two. At the top of this wave, we will have between 2,500 and 3,000 infected each day, and I hope we will not exceed that number. If, on the contrary, we cross it, the duration of this wave will also change – thinks Kočović.
Dangerous january
Infectious disease specialist Zarko Rankovic agrees with him. It explains that the more infected citizens we have, the easier the infection will spread and, therefore, the fight against the plague will last longer.
– This wave will last drastically longer for several reasons. The first is that we are already deep into fall and winter is just around the corner. This is the time of year when respiratory infections like the corona virus explode. On the other hand, it is precisely because the days will be colder and people will spend more time indoors. As a result, the infection will spread faster and reach humans more easily. On top of all that, in January a collision of the corona and seasonal flu is expected, which can cause big problems and since when we are all afraid – he says and adds:
– The fact that we already have drastically more patients than in April and July tells us that this time we will fight for the crown for longer. The more patients, the more reservoirs of the infection, so it will spread faster, easier and stronger between people. It is not the same if you have 100 and 1000 patients a day. It is quite logical that a thousand people transmit the infection to an incomparably greater number of citizens: Ranković is clear.
Better discipline
When asked why we had around 300 infected people a day in the first wave, and now more than 2,000, infectologist Ranković replied:
– Then we were closed, there was a limited movement of people, which is not the case now. People have relaxed too much, they don’t wear masks, they hang out, so now we feel the consequences of that. At that time we were all afraid, we did not know what the coronavirus was, so we respected the measures recommended by the crisis personnel, and now we no longer do it – thinks Ranković.
In the past 24 hours, 11,192 people were tested for the corona virus in Serbia, of which 2,677 tested positive. Unfortunately, 9 more people died, while 77 patients were on respirators.
