Today, Komercijalna Banka turns 50 years old. The jubilee comes at the moment when its sale to the Slovenian bank NLB is made official. After decades, the state will lose its stake in one of the largest banks in the national market and, at times, by far the largest bank in all parameters.
Today Komercijalna Banka has 900,000 clients and almost 2 million accounts. It was founded in 1970, and got its real name, which it still uses today, 20 years later. Ljuibomir Mihajlović, its founder, revealed facts that many were unaware of.
In the 1970s, he was one of the directors of Jugobanka in Kosovska Mitrovica. At the same time, he was engaged in journalism and, due to a series of texts on the relationship between Serbs and Albanians, he received an ultimatum and had to leave the southern province.
“I soon became a director of Jugobanka in Belgrade, and then a director of the representative office in Frankfurt. Aware of the political circumstances in the early 1990s and the possibility of the collapse of the state banks, I decided on a major move : I separated Jugobanka 2 from Jugobanka and founded Komercijalna Banka, “Ljubomir Mihajlovic told SETimes. Blic Biznis “who was in charge of the bank for 12 years and never had any of its shares.”
Later, as a banker in Komercijalna, he says, he was a stepping stone for many companies and people who are still very successful in Serbia. We approved their loans and helped them develop, then it turned out, very successful businesses, because he had no problems with the same people to collect loans. He is best known to the public by the nickname Ljuba Shiptar, which he got when he was still in school.
He was born in a town near Zubin Potok into a large family and company of eight brothers and sisters. He showed an entrepreneurial spirit in his youth.
In fifth grade, he became president of the student cooperative. With the idea that the students would start producing baskets and purses, he quickly built a successful business that financed many student activities.
“A few months after the start of the Second World War, the partisans arrived in our village with Peko Dapcevic at the head. I was only a few months old then and I cried so much that only Peko could calm me down singing: ‘My Malisor, my Malisor’. then everyone called me Malisor. When the high school teachers found out that my friends called me Malisor, they told me that the Malisors live in Montenegro and that as a resident of Kosovo I can only take the nickname Shiptar, “Mihajlovic said recently.
Speaking of Komercijalna Banka, to which he often returns during talks, he says that it was originally a small bank with around a hundred workers and five or six branches. For eight years since its founding in 2000, it had more than 150 million marks of capital.
