The meeting will be attended by Ana Hrustanovic, Serbian Ambassador to the European Union, Kristor Makridis, Deputy Head of the European Commission Unit for Serbia, Elza Fenet, Head of the Western Balkans Department at the European External Action Service , the result of the parliamentary elections and the future of democracy in Serbia. Natasa Dragojlovic, coordinator of the National Convention on the EU, and the director of the CRTA program, Rasa Nedeljkov, will talk about the performance of democratic studies.

Diplomatic sources from Danas of Brussels explain that the meeting will serve as “preparation of the ground” for the next phase of negotiations between the government and the opposition on the improvement of electoral conditions in Serbia, which should be held under the auspices of the European Parliament.

It should be recalled that the President of the EP, David Sasoli, and the MEPs Tanja Fajon and Vladimir Bilčik sent letters to the new Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ivica Dačić, in which they expressed the readiness of the EP to participate again in these debates and expressed the need to improve the conditions for holding elections in our country.

Dacic confirmed Danas’ recent conclusions that these talks will be organized in the National Assembly and that not only the parties that have their representatives in parliament will participate, but also the political organizations that boycotted the June elections.

The Serbian United Opposition announced that it would participate in the dialogue with the authorities, but cited repeated mediation by the EP as a condition.

Diplomats also point out that the EP has “become the most critical voice, among all the institutions of the European Union.”

As they explain, several MEPs “closely monitor the situation in Serbia, especially when it comes to the stagnation of democracy and other controversial issues in the field of the rule of law.” In that context, they also interpret the meeting scheduled for November 4.

“Before re-engaging in dialogue in Serbia, the EP will carefully analyze the situation on the ground.” In that process, they will include interlocutors from the civil sector, mainly those dealing with electoral conditions and the media landscape, “our sources say. .

It is also expected that, in the near future, EP representatives will meet with the Minister for Human Rights, Gender Equality and Social Dialogue, Gordana Čomić.
