The epidemiologist Predrag Kon said tonight that he is in favor of introducing stricter measures, but that he must wait until a legal framework is created.

A serious jump, the main event is here in Belgrade, 590 infected, while others are growing gradually. It hasn’t happened in Belgrade before. We have a higher number in kovid dispensaries, a higher number of people taking swabs, “said Dr. Predrag Kon during a visit to RTS’s Belgrade Chronicle.
As he said, “it is to be expected that the situation in Belgrade could get even worse, as there are almost two million inhabitants here.”
– You have the medical part of the Crisis Staff, the part that is made up of ministers, secretaries, mayors … The final decision is made at the end with the conclusions. The conclusion is made by the Government and we make recommendations. Before that, therefore, a decision is made – explained Dr. Kon.
He stressed that the largest number of people were infected at parties organized in secret.
– We kept watch all the time that the inspection services worked and at the same time people hid and organized even more hidden parties. People think we talk about parties like this. In schools, for example, there is no transmission. And when you ask where someone got infected? Then you get to the data, although most do not know it, they mention the parties and celebrations they were at. They are not just rafts, they are also private celebrations, Kon said.
For something to be implemented, he emphasized, a change in the legal framework is needed.
– Lawyers say that certain measures can only be implemented in a state of emergency. I can’t help, because that’s not my profession. Everything can be implemented, but it lasts. That’s why I posted on Facebook that “there is no time to convince” – said Kon.
When asked what number is needed to introduce stricter measures, Kon said he is in favor of introducing stricter measures, but that “we have to wait for a legal framework to be established.”

– We have to stop the virus in terms of further transmission. Therefore, these next seven days will also be bad and, sadly, the increase in the number of deaths is yet to come. The efficiency was phenomenal in the state of emergency. And then I said that pandemics cannot be solved any other way, and I stood my ground. And I know that many will criticize me – stressed Kon.
The solution, according to him, now is to show stubbornness and wear masks.
– To stop the virus, and we can do it with masks. It’s just that people don’t believe, about 15 percent of them.
Everything works with schools, theaters and cinemas.
Speaking of festivals, Kon said that cultural institutions were left to carry out the measures themselves.
– With theater and cinemas, we have seen so far that it can work. People want to cooperate. The same goes for schools – he added.
