New regulations have allowed retailers to no longer store these products in feeders. Although many consumers are entering a new trend and wondering whether food will stay healthy in the new conditions, experts say there is no reason to worry, as eggs prefer temperatures above five degrees.
Zoran Rai from the “Jagodina” Specialist Veterinary Institute believes that retail chains do not stock large, but buy on demand, thus reducing the risk of hygienic defects to a minimum. It highlights that the regulation on egg quality is fully harmonized with European directives and has been applied in Serbia since the beginning of this year.
The company “Lidl Srbija” assures that they have changed the place of presentation of the eggs from temperature to room temperature and that these are the latest European recommendations included in the Rulebook on egg quality of the Republic of Serbia, which indicate that this food does not recommended in the refrigerator. .

Zoran Ivanovi, head of the Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, also points out that class A eggs are not exposed to the cooling process below 5 degrees Celsius.
The maximum is not prescribed
The president of the Serbian Livestock Association, Rade Kori, points out that the Rulebook did not define the maximum temperature at which the eggs should be stored.
“It is left to the producer and the trader to control the temperature at which the egg is not at risk,” says Kori. “The ordinance didn’t define it, and we urge them to be in refrigeration systems after all. The ideal storage temperature is between 14 and 20 degrees. It should always be a continuous temperature. It affects quality.”
“The Ordinance on the quality of the eggs prescribes that this product can be kept at a temperature below five degrees only during transport, which is less than 24 hours or in retail facilities, but not more than 72 hours,” Ivanovi explained to Novosti.
“There are lids on domestic refrigerators, just so that these foods are not too cold. The temperature in them is between eight and 12 degrees. In stores, no one keeps eggs in the part where the meat is stored, where the temperature is from two to four degrees, but in milk, where the temperature is around seven degrees.
