Yesterday morning, around eight o’clock on the Zrenjanin road, the Minister of Economy, Goran Knezevic, hitched a 75-year-old pedestrian car with a rear-view mirror.
As we learned, the pedestrian suffered minor bodily injuries after the fall and was examined at the emergency center of the city hospital.
According to the complaints from the Ministry of Economy, which were released after the traffic accident, Minister Knezevic expressed his regret for the incident and hoped that everything would be fine with the injured pedestrian, when minor bodily injuries were found. According to what was announced, during the police investigation, it was established that the traffic lights at the crossing did not work after the thunder and rain, that the minister did not have alcohol in his blood, while the car was taken for an extraordinary technical inspection.
The incident with the minister in Zrenjanin had a happy epilogue, but it sparked great interest from the media and the public. Some other road accidents with Serbian ministers had tragic endings, such as the 2003 accident in which the Minister of Agriculture of the Zoran Djindjic government, Dragan Veselinov, was found. The “Veselinov case” that the driver Stevan Bakalov is blamed for is remembered after the death of Katarina Marić, who was crossing the street at the corner of Belgrade and Njegoševa streets, and on that occasion Srboslav Ćirić suffered minor injuries.
That Serbia has a problem with public officials and transport ministers is also confirmed by the tragic accident of former Police Minister Dragan Jočić, who in January 2008 on the Nis-Belgrade highway near Velika Plana, after overturning an off-road vehicle “Mercedes Benz” at high speed, serious bodily injury. And this time the responsibility for the accident fell on the driver.
Two years ago, at the Doljevac toll ramp, the former director of the Serbian Corridor, Zoran Babić, was involved in an incident in which Stanika Gligorijević lost his life and five people were injured. During the investigation it was indicated that the driver, who was driving a “Skoda Superb” at a speed of 93 kilometers per hour, collided with the “Opel Astra”, which was stopped due to payment of the toll, for which he refused, and then hit the rear of the “Volkswagen Passat”. coming off the ramp. The trial for this accident is still ongoing.
