During the past week, there were mainly single cases of coronavirus infection in 56 primary and secondary schools in Belgrade, says epidemiologist Predrag Kon, adding that the situation in schools is good for now.
Kon said the virus was detected in 28 secondary schools and as many elementary schools, and that the infection of the students was in the family or in family contact outside of school. Transmission of the virus between students took place in two high schools and those groups of students immediately switched to online classes.
– A monitoring system has been created that works under these conditions. Whether there will be school closings or not depends on the assessment of the virus infusion in schools and whether it will affect the organization of the classes themselves, Kon said.
Regarding kindergartens, Kon says that employees get sick more often than children and that children, even if infected, have a mild clinical picture.
– Since the employees wear masks, if it appears that someone is infected, it is not necessary to send the children to isolation and home quarantine – Kon explained.
A member of the crisis staff stated that, following the worsening epidemiological situation in Serbia, there are reasons for parents to consider not taking their children to kindergarten, but that for employed parents, kindergarten is the only one solution.
