As soon as Kurir announced the great news for all the inhabitants of Belgrade: that 30 hectares of forest will not be cut down in Kosutnjak because the city rejected the existing project “Avala Studios”, the Dragan Solak media ran faster or better to attack us, broadcasting the announcement of the Let’s Not Drowning Initiative in Belgrade.
Although the decision of the City Council is an undoubted public interest and a great thing, which would not have happened without the strong media pressure of Kurir, when our newspaper announced the good news, we were the target of a statement full of false accusations and arguments without arguments. , owned by the media. United Group and Dragan Šolak, and especially Nova S and H1, were immediately transferred. The question is whether the right of citizens to clean air and the preservation of the “lungs of Belgrade” is less important to them in relation to the combination of business interests of Šolak and “Avala Studios”, about which Kurir wrote. Let us remind you, the main urban planner of the city of Belgrade, Marko Stojčić, stated to Kurir, as the medium that fought the most for Košutnjak, that the City rejected the existing project “Avala Studios” and stopped the development of a detailed regulatory plan.
Orchestrated campaign
– The construction project of some 600,000 square meters of residential and business complex in Kosutnjak, which would destroy up to 30 hectares of forests and green areas in this green oasis of the capital, was completely stopped by decision of the Planning Commission of the Assembly of Belgrade City, following an early public inspection. detailed regulatory plan: Stojčić told Kurir adding that he would “continue with the additional steps, in accordance with legal procedure”, and that they could be “a total rejection of the plan or a significant reduction in construction capacity in that area “, but that will happen in the next period, when all the analyzes are completed.

However, this text was followed in Kurir by an orchestrated campaign: a statement and its immediate publication in the Sholak media. – The initiative Let’s not drown in Belgrade is dismayed by the blatant media turn of Kurir and the Serbian Progressive Party, which, after a decisive public reaction to protect Kosutnjak, tried to take credit for stopping construction in this urban forest. Although we can hear from everywhere that the government is turning away from investors and promising that there will be no cuts, on the other hand, activities to adopt a plan that will allow construction in the Kosutnjak area continues, the Initiative announced, which is completely contrary to the accusations of the urban planner.

This is just one more proof that it doesn’t matter that Kurir did something excellent, that he always pointed out that behind Kosutnjak’s defense there is a petition from more than 70,000 belgraders, which we pointed out in that fight and many prominent public figures, who were behind defense. of the forest, but that only one thing is important: attacking those who indicate someone’s combinations of business interests.
Let us remind you that Kurir has already written that the interests of Sholak’s United Group, within which Nova S and H1 operate, and “Avala Studios” also coincide in Kosutnjak. The largest tenant of the “Avala Studios” space in Kosutnjak, where it records numerous programs that are broadcast on Sholak’s televisions, is United Group. The same one who for weeks refused to answer our questions about his business relations with “Avala Studios”, as well as his position on the deforestation in Kosutnjak and if he supports the destruction of 30 ha of forest for the construction of a residential and commercial complex. However, with this play, they said and showed a lot. The messenger, as before, will continue to fight for the green areas and persevere in the correct mission, regardless of the terrible pressures we were exposed to while defending the felling of trees in Kosutnjak. Our fight for the preservation of forests continues, which we have demonstrated many times, among other things, with the action “Plant a tree”, which we carried out for the second consecutive year, during which we planted more than 50,000 trees throughout Serbia in a single day.
