Drivers who have rebuilt their vehicles will have difficulty passing the MUKA OD JULA technical inspection

Car owners who have unauthorized repairs to their vehicle by removing the lambda probe, catalytic converter and DPF filter, or drivers who bought such a “used car”, will have trouble with the technical inspection and will have a hard time passing it to as of July 5 year.

Then begins the full application of the regulations regarding the measurement of exhaust emissions, and these parts are essential for their purification of harmful substances. All vehicles must meet these requirements in order to register.

The biggest problem will be those who removed the lambda probe. Cars made without a catalytic converter should not have it and can be registered as long as they are kept in good condition.

In the case of vehicles with exhaust gas cleaning devices, owners who have not already done so should check before July 5 if their car has a catalytic converter or DPF filter and if they are correct. These parts are often removed because they cause drivability problems if they become clogged or worn and damaged.

About one hundred euros

In some cases, owners do so because they can sell these devices for around one hundred euros. The problem for those who want to return these parts will be an estimate of how much it is worth to install them now.

It can be seen from the websites of many services that catalyst removal is a frequent request from customers. Jovan Cvetković, the director of the famous Belgrade car center, however, believes that it is now not that big and that parts were mostly removed earlier from vehicles that are 10 years old or older.

– When the catalytic converter expires, there is the problem of “suffocating” the car, and older cars like “Euro 3” can run without that part. People cut it off, put in a piece of pipe, and move on. DPF filters can be completely removed or ceramic can be removed with new models, and then the maps on the computer are changed by software and an error is avoided, explains Cvetković.

The “Used Cars” website warns that the problem for diesel buyers may be precisely the situation where the filter is deactivated by removing the honeycomb and the casing remains intact, so a simple inspection cannot reveal whether it has been removed the DPF. In such cases, verification is only possible through diagnostics.

Vlada Marinković from the National Association for Technical Inspections (NATEP) points out that the vehicle must meet two key requirements to pass the correctness check.

Two key requirements

– Technical inspection is the determination of the minimum environmental and driving characteristics necessary for the participation of vehicles in traffic. For any vehicle to pass this verification, it must meet two key requirements: be maintained and not have its technical characteristics modified without authorization, such as removal of the lambda probe, catalytic converter, DPF filter … Vehicles manufactured without catalytic converters should not have it. they will be able to record if they are kept in good condition – explains Marinkovic.

As Marinkovic points out, the biggest problem will be with the gas stations that removed the lambda probe. It is a sensor that measures the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gases. The catalyst makes them less harmful thanks to the lambda probe.

Drivers that don’t have it can reinstall it.

The price of a lambda probe, depending on the type and model of the vehicle, is between 2,400 and 24,500 dinars.

– The most profitable solution for vehicle owners who want to return the catalytic converter is to opt for the so-called universal which costs about 100 euros. Used DPF filters range from 300 to 1,000, and new ones from 1,000 to 6,000 euros, advises Cvetković.
