Dramatic warning from a doctor from the kovid area of KBC “Bežanijska kosa”

In addition to the increase in the number of new coronavirus cases, what should still concern us is the sudden increase in the number of people on respirators. This is just another indication that this third hit of the crown is not as easy as it was thought at the beginning of the wave.

In just 24 hours, from Saturday to Sunday, the number of people on ventilators nationwide increased by 29, and today we have 13 more, and now a total of 119 patients cannot breathe on their own.

If we look at the graphical representation, we compare this third wave with the first and second lines of the curve, they begin to be seen more and more.

Number of people with a respirator on a given date

During the first wave, most patients wore respirators on April 12, 146 of them. In the next, second stroke, a record number of 205 people were recorded on respirators on July 22.

However, as hospitals fill up all over Serbia and doctors point out that the clinical pictures of patients are increasingly difficult, it is not ruled out that the number of people on ventilators will increase in the coming days.

They ignore the symptoms and end up on a respirator

– There is no elderly population, mostly patients between 45 and 65 years old. Of course, there are some very elderly patients, but most of them are those who came from the hospital, after an operation, where their crown was discovered. But there are many young people who neglected their symptoms with a high fever and then ended up on mechanical ventilation due to the worsening, with a high score seen on the scan – says the anesthesiologist ass of “Kurir”. Dr. Marija Milenković, coordinator of the Kovid Bežanijska kosa Hospital, who works in the Emergency Center under normal circumstances.

He adds that “when they arrive in the late stage of pneumonia, there is not much help for them.

– They always require some type of mechanical, non-invasive or invasive ventilation. Currently, the youngest patient on our ventilator is in his 40s and the oldest of us is 86, says Dr. Milenković.

Organ failure also begins in the respirator

Dr. Milenković points out that later there will be a progression to other organs.

– It is increasingly associated with heart problems, there are various forms of heart failure, to which, after so much experience, cardiologists are already used to. There are also problems associated with the gastrointestinal tract, the nervous system. When you have diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, these are already symptoms of other organs and breathing is difficult from the lungs, he explained.

He added that organ failure is beginning in the respirator.

– A respirator is a machine that helps, but you have to sedate there. And then slowly multi-organ dysfunction begins and other organs begin to fail. The kidneys fail, the patient ends up on dialysis and, in general, the entire body’s ability to fight and react is reduced, he said.

There are no easier cases

Hospital capacities are almost full, on the last day a certain number of patients were sent from Belgrade to Mladenovac, Smederevo and Pozarevac, and in the Belgrade Arena there are now only 101 places available.

Dr. Vlada Batnožić said that 31 patients were admitted to the Arena yesterday, and for now there are a total of 409. The total capacity of the Arena is 510 beds.

– They are more serious patients with bilateral pneumonia, there are no more mild cases, more serious cases come to us. The sand fills up very quickly – said Dr. Batnožić.

The epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon also spoke about the clinical picture that is now found in patients a few days ago.

– When there is a massive increase in the number of infected, there are more people with a more severe clinical picture in hospitals, and there is a picture that the virus is more invasive, but epidemiologically, in relation to the total number of patients, it is not see a big change – said Dr. Kon.

His colleague Dr. Branislav Tiodorović also pointed out a few days ago that it is still the most difficult for chronic patients, and it should not be forgotten that a young man can also develop a severe form of the disease.

– The most serious clinical pictures are more related to the elderly, older than 60 years, while the youngest from 20 to 40 rarely develop a more serious form of the disease, but we must not forget that it exists. It is just proof that every rule has an exception, one should not have high hopes that a young man will surely push everything on his feet, because there is a belief among young people that they will not be hit by a heavier way, and until now it’s been like this for the last ten days. But now the situation is slowly getting complicated, so even the youngest can get into a more difficult shape, although less often, but they can. And the reason is that there are many more sources of infection. Now we have that situation again since the beginning of July, when the increase in the number of carriers of the virus contributed to the fact that young people are infected much more frequently and much more – explained prof. Tiodorović.

If you look at the fact that a few days ago, in just 24 hours, up to 400 people were hospitalized, and that doctors increasingly talk about the difficult clinical picture of patients, it is possible that the number of people on respirators will increase in the coming days.

The Minister of Health, Zlatibor Lončar, said today that the Zemun Hospital entered the kovid system yesterday and announced that the same would happen with the General Hospital of Pancevo, noting that after that “we have nothing more to open for those purposes. “.
