The director of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Clinic of the Serbian Clinical Center, Goran Stevanović, stated today that the coronavirus epidemic in Serbia is not ending, but is calming down, and that there will be new patients during June and perhaps later .
– The story will not end in May. We will have new patients in June, maybe even after that – Stevanović said.
He stated that at the institution he manages, the occupancy rate is around 75%, that there is only one person on the ventilator, while nine patients are in intensive care.
However, Stevanović warned of repeated swings in the number of examinations per night, which, he says, speaks in favor of the epidemic not ending, but only calming down.
– At the end of last week, there were up to 50 exams per night, 81 patients were examined last night. The epidemic is not coming to an end, it is slowly calming down, but that calm may last, Stevanović said.
He said that it was definitely “the beginning of the end”, and that the most important thing is how the relaxation of measures, but also the behavior and movement of people will affect the total number of patients, which will be seen in the next five to seven days.
As he said, the appearance of new critical points like Leskovac is worrying.
In today’s meeting with union representatives, Kovid Hospital and the Minister of Health, he says he will express the position that the capacities for receiving patients should not be significantly reduced, because although our figures are good, we should not relax.
– We must be prepared to receive all those who ask for help. The story will not end in May. We will have new patients in June, maybe even after that – Stevanović concluded.
