Because of this, he believes, younger colleagues should be educated on time.

“This has been a problem for a long time, not only in the Institute of Oncology, but in general throughout Serbia. No one has looked at the age of the doctors who need to work. Just a few years ago some of them will retire, as many as there will be. Oncologists, radiation therapists, ”Dr. Danica Grujii told the Belgrade Chronicle.

As he said in radiation oncology, they supported the doctors well, but Grujiyeva pointed to the fact that the five bosses will be retiring in four years in almost a year.

The oncology internal medicine specialization lasts for five years, which means that according to Grujii, the number of doctors should be expanded, especially as the number of patients receiving chemotherapy through a day hospital increases, which it is a trend all over the world.

He stressed that in this way it was finally possible to have no more waiting lists for chemotherapy and that colleagues were heavily in debt and made both administrative and physical efforts to prevent patients from waiting.

“But we ran out of five outstanding doctors in four years. Now we must consider educating new young doctors on time, and all health institutions in Serbia must do so.”

“I have always argued that American doctors are not better than us because they are smarter, but only because they do more,” said the director of the Institute of Oncology.

She added that it should become commonplace that, as she said, “if you have chosen medicine, your time is the patient’s, especially if you have chosen surgery, oncology, it must be available to your patient.”
