The wiretapping scandal and a kind of attempted coup, as characterized by security experts, and which was revealed by President Aleksandar Vučić in a conversation with Kurir, has been shaking Serbia for days. After the president clearly stated in a New Years interview for our newspaper that he knew he had been illegally eavesdropped for a year and a half, and the newly elected Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin and SNS official Vladimir Djukanovic announced that part of the police was involved, all public eyes were involved. he pointed precisely to former minister Nebojsa Stefanovic.
The public, as logic dictates, expected to know from the then head of the MUP department if he knew anything about this matter, in the end, the simplest journalistic question: how he sees the scandal that happened during his ministry.
It is interesting that Stefanović did not speak to the national media about these issues, nor did he answer specific questions from Kurir. To our questions “how do you, as a former minister, see this matter?” and “did you know, as line minister (at that time), that part of the service within the UKP was to spy on the country’s president”, the former police minister and the current head of the defense department referred us to the Russian portal Sputnik , saying that “Your statement for that portal will be out soon.”
Without going into the specific reasons of Minister Stefanović, to whom he will answer questions, and when he will instruct the media to “see in Sputnik” what he has to say on this great matter, he cannot help but notice that, in the end , is unusual The Minister refuses to respond to the national media (and we believe that many colleagues who approach this issue in a professional manner, attempted to obtain a comment from the relevant Minister during whose time the President of Serbia, as well as his closest associates , relatives, some officials and even the BIA director were illegally eavesdropped and their conversations recorded).
That this move by Stefanović is unusual, to say the least, considering the fact that Minister Vulin also claimed that there is an influence of a foreign factor in this matter, is the impression of the experts and security officials with whom we contacted. Miroslav Bjegović, professor of security sciences, commenting that Stefanović gave an interview to foreign media after several days of silence, evaluated for Kurir that “it is interesting who wants to overthrow the president of the state, and that on the one hand there are elements of the party It is headed by President Vucic. “
– As a former Minister of the Interior, you should have explained in a professional sense what happened with the counterintelligence protection and the electronic surveillance service within the Criminal Police Directorate. It should have explained why in a way that service programmed and made such an omission, which may have far-reaching consequences for the national security of the Republic of Serbia, considering that the president of the state was wiretapped and that this is an attempt knock.
Bjegovic: I should have summoned the Security Services Coordination Office and ordered an urgent reaction
The personnel who arrived at the subordinate institutions arrived at the suggestion of the SNS, that is, him. What I needed to do was to convene an Office for the Coordination of Security Services and order an immediate response to this threat to the security of a political-criminal group that, in my opinion, is well educated and has great logistics from Western power centers. , mainly large intelligence services. They are only equipped with such listening systems that they can enter any communication in the world – declared Bjegović.
By the way, Stefanović told Sputnik that “it is obvious that there was a part of the people who abused their powers and functions”.
– It is important that they are revealed, that all these facts are revealed and that the State put an end to this case and show that it is stronger than ever – said Stefanović. When asked by Sputnik (which was also asked by Kurir, and to which he did not answer us), does he, as a former Police Minister, have any information about it? Stefanović said:
– What I can say is that it is important that the prosecution completes this investigation and reaches all the relevant indicators and evidence, because it is important that it does not remain vague, that is, that it has its epilogue.
Vladimir Đukanović, an SNS official, who was also heard, analyzed Stefanović’s statement for Sputnik.
– As announced, someone abused their authority, but I do not see that the Prosecutor’s Office has reacted or that criminal charges have been filed. Stefanović is the secretary of the National Security Council and the head of the Office of Security Services, and certainly all possible information was leaked to him, so he should have been informed that the President of the Republic was being eavesdropped, and now we dream that it is not so. Those who abused their authority certainly had some motives, we need to find out which ones. And apparently they just moved. It should be seen if internal control has been carried out in the Interior Ministry and if there will be criminal charges, Djukanovic told Kurir. The professor of the Faculty of Security, Zoran Dragišić, emphasizes that he was beaten in the highest of the country and that it is a very delicate matter.
– I would not bet on who is behind everything, but it is very possible that it is a foreign country. That should not be ruled out in a matter like this – thinks Dragisic.
Retired KOS colonel Ljuban Karan says it is not clear to him why Stefanović avoids explaining his role openly in public, considering that he was the Minister of Police when the intervention occurred.
– However, I do not have the impression that Stefanović is in some kind of conspiracy. He’s obviously waiting for the outcome, so he can explain his version, wanting not to get into an affair until a few things are revealed, Karan said.
