Due to the explosion of the crown in Serbia, older primary school students (5th to 8th grade) and high school students switched to online classes from November 30th, and the winter break, which was supposed to they would be in two parts in most of Serbia, they have been combined and are quite early. The classrooms will be empty at least from December 19 to January 18 already mentioned.
We say at least, because at the moment there are three realistic variants for the continuation of the school year, and it will depend mainly on the situation with the crown, which will be in force in Serbia in mid-January. Still, let’s go in order.
1. Back to school
The first variant is that all students return to school on Monday, January 18, and that the school year continues regularly, both for the youngest students in primary school (first to fourth grade), and for the older ones, as well as for high school students.
For this to be possible, the green light of the Crisis Staff for the fight against kovid 19 will be necessary, that is, the assessment that this will not lead to a drastic worsening of the situation.
There is no doubt that many parents and teachers are anxious to wait for the situation to return to normal and return to school.
2. Continue online
A fairly realistic option if there is no significant calm in the situation and a significant drop in the number of new patients, that is, a new explosion after the New Year’s and Christmas holidays.
If the situation is evaluated as unsafe in the classroom, it is very possible that older primary and secondary students will continue to learn from home, and there is always a variant for the younger ones to join them.
3. Extension of vacations
It wouldn’t be the first or the last time that winter break lasts for a week or two. For years, this happened because of the flu, whose peak season is in January and February. And if it merges with the crown, it would pose a double hazard. Of course, this variant depends on the assessment of whether everything that would have been lost in that case could be compensated later, and even with a possible extension of the school year.
However, at the beginning of the winter holidays, you cannot even guess what the beginning of the second half of the year will be like. At the moment, it is less likely that the holidays can be extended, but it is still possible to return to the classroom and continue the classes online.
– For now, it is early and it is not possible to specify which solution will be on the table. The decision depends on the extent of the epidemic, that is, the number of people infected. Certainly our goal is to go back to the classrooms, to school. However, nothing is left to chance and risk for employees and students – said in the Ministry of Education for “Blic”.
Extended school year
The school year has already been extended: for eighth graders, instead of fourth, it ends on June 8, while students from first to seventh grade will go to school on June 22, and not as planned in the previous calendar, June 18. For high school graduates, classes end on May 25 instead of May 21, for three-year and four-year vocational high school students on June 1, and for other high school students on June 22. of June.
Graduation from June 23 to 25
The date of the final exam for primary school students has also been moved. Instead of June 21, 22 and 23, young high school graduates will take exams in Serbian, mathematics and combined on June 23, 24 and 25.
Spring break
The second half of the year will be significantly longer than the first and will take 103 business days compared to the previous 76 business days. Students will have a break only for Sretenje, on February 15 and 16 (Monday and Tuesday), as well as spring break from April 20 to May 10.
