Adam Bowler, executive director of the United States Finance Corporation for International Development (DFC), said today that the agency is highly committed to the economic development of the Western Balkans and strengthening the sovereignty of the countries of the region, to difference from China.
“Chinese investment always comes with some conditions. The Chinese do not invest in the region out of goodwill and mercy, but out of influence. The Chinese approach is a kind of neocolonialism.” Our job is to invest in those countries to strengthen their sovereignty. ” Bowler told reporters on a conference call.
In a briefing on the visit of the US government delegation to Greece, Kosovo, Serbia, Israel and Morocco last week, Bowler said that the results of the newly created DFC office in Belgrade would be visible after some time and that the analyzes would take “several weeks or months.”
“We have to go through certain procedures. The first step was the field meetings, with representatives of dozens and dozens of companies. The next step can be letters of intent and then agreements. It is not something that ends quickly, but it is real”, Bowler said.
He said that the “real intentions” of the United States were evidenced in the fact that the delegation that visited the region included representatives of six American institutions, DFC, USAID, the Export-Import Bank (EXIM), the Ministries of Commerce and Energy. and the National Security Council. NSC).
“We are very committed to the region we visit. That commitment of ours will be seen in time. This is the first step and we will be many more,” said Bowler, who symbolically opened the DFC office with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic during your visit to Belgrade.
He affirmed that the DFC will continue to implement what it committed to, regardless of the outcome of the November 3 presidential election in the United States, because that agency has the support of both Democrats and Republicans.
Bowler congratulated the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdulah Hoti, on the agreement on the normalization of economic relations in the White House, on the basis of which, among other things, the regional office of the DFC in Belgrade.
“I congratulate the leaders of both countries who have put aside the old issues. “They recognized that economic cooperation promotes the interests of both parties, by creating jobs and creating an environment in which they speak of the strength of each state, and not the old conflict,” said the executive director of the DFC.
The director of the newly opened Belgrade office of the DFC, John Jovanović, said at the briefing that the US delegation in Serbia specifically discussed investments in various projects.
Jovanovic did not respond to the question about the financial framework of the planned investments in Serbia.
He said that the priority projects are the “Highway of Peace” and the railway line that will connect Serbia and Kosovo.
“Some of these projects are ongoing and we will try to provide financial resources to both parties to improve their economic cooperation,” said Jovanovic.
He said that the Belgrade meetings also discussed the support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the promotion of cooperation between young entrepreneurs from Serbia and Kosovo.
