The American International Financial Development Corporation (DFC) and the Export-Import Bank of America (EXIM) signed agreements of intent (LOL) with Belgrade and Pristina today to help finance the construction of the Peace Highway, which will connect Nis and Pristina.

As announced by DFC and EXIM Bank, the signed agreements are not binding and will be followed by standard actions before project funding is officially established.

– The Peace Highway will contribute to economic development and regional integration, connecting Nis and Pristina – said DFC representative Adam Boiler, adding that the project “will serve as a powerful symbol of the new and transformative relations between Belgrade and Pristina” .

He added that DFC, in cooperation with EXIM, is committed to the progress of the peace process, investing in projects that bring new jobs and sustainable economic benefits for both parties.

EXIM Bank President Kimberly A. Reed said the Peace Highway is a significant step in economic cooperation between Belgrade and Pristina.

– I commend the work of President Trump and the entire administration on this historic agreement. The Export-Import Bank of America is committed to supporting processes that bring progress to economic development and employment in the region and supports US exports and workers, he said.

As announced, DFC and EXIM plan to send delegations to Belgrade and Pristina later this month to advance work on the Peace Highway and other projects.

DFC will also focus on field work as part of opening its first office in the region.

– The permanent representation of the DFC in Belgrade will facilitate the implementation of primary projects, such as the Highway of Peace, which will lead to the creation of new jobs and economic growth in the region – is added in the announcement.
