The old Savski trg train station, whose reconstruction is in progress, received decorative lighting on the façade, Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić announced on his Facebook profile. At the same time, he announced that the Nikola Tesla Museum would move into that building.

“Tonight, Savski trg, the building of the old train station. The recently renovated façade was lit up and decorative lighting was put into operation. Only now can you see the beauty of this building. I am proud,” said Vesić.

The deputy mayor added that the central building in Sava Square will become the Nikola Tesla Museum, “the largest and most representative in the world.”

“Until recently, this building was leaking and the building’s facade was falling apart. They couldn’t repair the roof or paint the facade, and now that we’ve renovated it, they remembered this building. What hypocrisy,” Vesić said of the critics. opposition due to the transfer of the train station to the city center.

It should be remembered that extensive works are currently being carried out in Plaza Sava, including the relocation of traffic to the perimeter of the plaza, the construction of a new sewage pumping station and the formation of a large plateau in front to the old railway station where the Stefan Nemanja monument will be 23 meters high.

The relocation of the railway from the Sava amphitheater, but also the appearance and dimensions of the monument to the first Serbian prefect, caused a strong public controversy in the previous months.

According to announcements from city officials, works on Sava Square should be completed in November.
