Shaip Kamberi, deputy of United Valley – SDA Sandzak during the first parliamentary questions to the Government of Serbia in this call, requested changes to the Law on Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities and “in addition to that” with the Serbian flag, placed the flag Albanian woman on the parliamentary bench.

This sparked outrage not only from the President of Parliament, but also from other MPs present in the room. At the insistence of Ivica Dacic, the president of the parliament, that this violates the parliamentary regulation, Kamberi had to withdraw the Albanian flag, although he reported several articles of the Constitution on the basis of which the use of symbols from other countries is allowed .

“Today, the flag of Serbia flies freely in Gracanica, Kumanovo”, where Serbs enjoy their rights. I don’t see anything debatable in that, but the same is not true in Serbia, “Kamberi said, adding that the Constitution recognizes the right of national minorities to express their national identity, and the Law on Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities limits that.

He said that while the flag of Serbia can be flown on the territories of other countries, the flags of other countries cannot be flown on the territory of Serbia. He asked what message is sent in this way and pointed out that the solution is not to ban others, but equality and the possibility for members of minorities in Serbia to use their symbols. That is why he requested changes to the Law on Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities in Serbia and asked if the government would initiate this procedure.

In reaction to the wording of the Albanian flag, the Speaker of Parliament said that tolerance in Serbia was at the highest possible level, but asked Cumbery to respect the Rules of Procedure, which does not allow the introduction of anything that is not part of the parliamentary material , especially the flags of other countries.

“So I would ask you to remove the flag of Albania, because it is not the flag of the Albanian national minority in our country.” If you don’t want that, then we will really take a break, “said Dačić, and Kemberi replied that he did it in accordance with the Law on the Use of the Flag, Shield and Anthem, but that” if there is not so much tolerance “… flag will be removed.

Dacic replied that there was no tolerance, but also stated that he was happy that Kamberi was pointing to the flag of Albania, and not Kosovo, because it showed that he recognized that Kosovo was part of Serbia. He asked Kamberi never to forget that he is a member of the Serbian Assembly and not from another country.

Gordana Comic, the Minister for Dialogue, responding to Kamberi’s question, said that a meeting was held with the minorities, that the next one would be on December 15, and that they would then discuss how minorities would participate in next year’s census. He invited Cumbery to attend the meeting.
