In recent days, in our largest crossings of Horgos and Gradina, more frequent seizures of tobacco products have been noted, among which the aromas of cigarettes and hookahs stand out.

A 37-year-old Bulgarian citizen, one of the passengers on the bus traveling from Sofia to the Spanish city of Mirandeli, tried to smuggle almost 400 packs of cigarettes through the Gradina junction.

In this he was hampered by customs agents who, on November 9, 2020, together with the police, set aside this bus for a detailed inspection at the entrance to our country. Then it turned out that the bags with the personal luggage of the aforementioned passenger were filled with cigarette boxes instead of the closet.

Another unusual case occurred the day before at the Horgos crossing, when customs officials, in cooperation with the police, seized almost 60 kilograms of various hookah scents. The violation was discovered when a bus going from Hamburg to Prizren arrived at the entrance of the country in the early hours of the morning for its control.

When asked about the usual check-in items, the driver and a small number of passengers said that they only carry personal luggage with them. During the detailed inspection that followed, 15 500 ml cans of hookah scents were found for the first time in the space provided for the driver’s rest area.

During the subsequent check, five more cardboard boxes with a total of 50 one-kilo cans of different fruit flavorings for hookahs were found in the trailer with suitcases and passenger bags.

The contraband goods will be held until the end of the procedure, and the driver of the Podujevo bus was seized by the police and the prosecution.
