We were hoping our son would come to visit us on the weekend, but that damn Friday it happened. Nothing can bring our Dejan back. He was our pride and one of the best drivers.
With these words, Stjepan Krsnik, father of Major Dejan Krsnik (49), passed away on Friday together with Captain First Class Zvonko Vasiljevic (43), when the military plane “Mig 21” crashed in the village of Brasina near Mali Zvornik, started a painful confession for Kurir. .
They were waiting
– As soon as we found out that “moment 21” had fallen, we knew that Dejan was in it. Throughout his career, he flew exclusively in this type of aircraft. The hope that he was alive lasted from the moment we heard on the news that a pilot had catapulted himself. We thought he was alive – says Stjepan with bitterness in his voice and adds: – We were waiting for a miracle, but everything fell apart when Dejan’s commander and colleague knocked on our door. As soon as we saw them, we knew he was dead. Then everyone began to come and express their condolences, the entire military and state leadership had words of comfort for us.
The unfortunate father says he last saw his son two weeks ago, when he was with them to visit them.
– Dejan’s mother and my wife are seriously ill and I am not in good health either. We plan to visit again for the weekend, but a tragedy happened, says Stjepan, who was also a soldier. He says he tried to explain to his grandson, Dejan’s only son, who followed in his father’s footsteps and enrolled in a pilot academy, that his vocation was risky.
– We serve the state with honor and must be prepared for such things. I think my son and his colleague stayed on the plane until the last moment so that it did not fall on the houses and to avoid civilian casualties – says the inconsolable father and adds that he hopes that the investigation will soon find out why the “moment crashed “.
Evidence gathered
Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin said yesterday that all material evidence had been gathered and that a recorder of the plane’s flight parameters had been found. – The flight parameter recorder is now being read and what it recorded will be seen. It is in good condition and is a kind of black box, from which you can see at what altitude the plane flew and at what speed. The commissions are now studying the evidence, and then it will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office – said Vulin and added: – The decision on the catapult of both pilots is taken by the person who commands the aircraft. An investigation will show if the pilots catapulted themselves. The commander of the plane was Major Krsnik, he is a flight instructor, explained the minister.

The defense minister said the injured pilots dedicated their lives to being safe. – It was their job, their mission and it was on that mission that they lost their lives. When you lose such young and dear people, you can only try to understand the pain of their families – he said and added: – They all loved Vasiljevic and Krsnik. Vasiljevic’s wife told me a moving phrase: “I knew it when I was getting married.”
