When we gathered around her bed, the nurse noted that her blood pressure had dropped from 40 that morning to 70. First we checked the therapy and then we looked at each other. We knew he was “going”. We call this a “circulatory” collapse. The crown is insidious, it kills even when it thinks it has saved a patient.
With these words, Dr. Marija Zdravković, director of KBC “Bežanijska kosa”, one of the equal, heroic doctors on the front lines of the fight against the insidious virus kovid 19, will start the conversation for “Novosti”.
Before we came to the hospital for an interview, we only knew that Director Zdravković had gone to bed twice and won on the 19th. And when we left, it became clear to us why Dr. Marija was named the first woman of the “Knight of Humanity. “from the Ljubičevo Equestrian Games. . After Arno Gujon, Jovan Simić, Novak Đoković, Milorad Čavić, Goran Bregović, this award will be presented to him today in Požarevac.
– I did not deserve it, especially because I got sick twice – our interlocutor justifies. – In this hospital, of 1,435 patients, 92.4 percent were cured. And we all participate in the deal, from the driver and the hygienist to me, the last in line.
The virus, Dr. Zdravković continues, is insidious. He chooses the weak points of the infected organism, he adds, and each patient is a “case for himself.”
– Normally the temperature rises first when the crown attacks the leukocytes and destroys the first defenses of the body. When the white blood cells lose the battle, the kovid-19 descends into the lungs, and when doctors deal with the lungs, the virus looks for the weakest point in the system. The final blow is to the blood vessels, the heart … At first, we realized that we should not underestimate the crown at any time. That is why the percentage of cures for our patients is above the world average.
The Bežanijska kosa hospital has created a unique database of patients and, as Dr. Zdravković explains, they are currently working with the Kragujevac Faculty of Medicine to investigate the impact of the virus at the molecular level. They have 1,400 files of the disease and the oxidative stress that represents the “flame of the organism infection” is being investigated.
– If we understood this process, we would be closer to the final confrontation with the infection – says Dr. Marija.
VACCINE THE BEST SOLUTION
– A VACCINE would be the best solution for a pandemic, although a long testing process still needs to be done – says Dr. Zdravković. – What can be good with advertised vaccines is competition between producers, because everyone is trying to have the best possible product.
The director of “Bežanijska kosa” also points out that her experience with the crown is almost the same as with other health workers, because they were all worried whether they would be carrying a dangerous virus when they returned home.
– I realized that I was sick at Easter when I first arrived and then the whole family. The middle son literally had sore skin while showering, the oldest had a fever and stomach problems, and the daughter had a sore throat with a temperature above 39. My husband, a doctor, had to go to the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, where he told me there was a man lying in bed next to him. Like me, my spine hurts with a low body temperature. Dr. Marija remembers those days in April and adds that her mother also died from the corona virus.
Dr. Maria recovered quickly, as did everyone else in the house. She was examined twice by PCR tests and the antibody test. She was, she says, fine.
– In June, I felt tired again, sweating … I admit that at first I thought that this crown of mine was “chronic”. A friend from school, our first infectious disease specialist, Dr. Stevanović, assured me that it was not. With his therapy and that second round, I was able to “run away” and get back to work.
Dr. Zdravković praises all colleagues and repeats that the experience is shared. It also highlights the reserve military doctor who at first remembered to call in the army, pitch tents and introduce another triage of patients.
– Today, as a system, we are much more prepared and more efficient because together we come to know the disease in all its terrible forms – concludes Dr. Marija Zdravković.
PREVENTIVE
– We should NOT be afraid, it is a disease that is cured in a huge percentage, but we must be protected. Some patients leave the hospital without any consequence. Therefore, masks and other preventive measures are mandatory. My husband, a doctor, says that sometimes you have to wear two masks.
ATTACKS AND NERVOUS END
– Until now, we have not treated such an insidious infection – our interlocutor is categorical. – Finally, it is surprising that colleagues have told me about the case of a patient whose virus attacked the nerve endings, so he first had a facial spasm and then the spasm spread to the whole body. Your treatment is ongoing.
