“COFFEE UNTIL 9 PM, MEETINGS FOR UP TO 5 PEOPLE” Dr. Tiodorović, on the eve of tomorrow’s emergency session of crisis personnel, reveals which MEASURES ARE MOST EFFECTIVE NOW

The number of infected in one day yesterday rose to a record 2,412, and the epidemiologist prof. Dr. Branislav Tiodorović says that when the number exceeds 2,000, the only effective measures are to close all bars after 9 pm and limit the gathering to a maximum of five people. Yesterday six people died and 53 patients are on respirators.

He confirmed today, before tomorrow’s session of crisis personnel for the fight against kovid 19, that no lockdown measures will be introduced to suppress the spread of the corona virus epidemic.

– The Crisis Team is sitting tomorrow, the first topic is the evaluation of the epidemiological situation. However, I think that at this moment we will not be able to go, nor is it fully justified, with some closure like in Great Britain, France, Italy, Hungary, because we are still in a much better situation, “Tiodorović told TV Prva.

Hard November, but also December

Professor Tiodorović warned in September that a difficult November awaits us and, as he adds in an interview for “Blic”, it will also be difficult for us in December. As he himself says, it is now very important for everyone to call upon their conscience and act responsibly, as do 80 percent of the people who respect the measures.

– Already in September, I said what awaits us in November, saying that people will understand the seriousness of the situation. A month ago I noticed that the main hot spots are the rafts and nightclubs in the capital, because I explained that the most important thing is to control how the measures are implemented, because that is the most important thing for us. I must say that any local community can act according to the epidemiological situation and strengthen the measures. For example, regardless of whether catering, tourism, etc. may be affected, we should limit the work of the catering facilities from 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., or 8:00 p.m., as soon as possible, and all local communities can do this. Right now the most difficult situation is in Belgrade, then in Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Valjevo, Sabac, Loznica, Pancevo, these are cities that are registering a large increase and it is slowly descending towards the south and southeast – says Professor Tiodorovic for “Blic”.

Hospitals fill up, and young people with serious clinical pictures …

Hospital capacities are being filled, and the most difficult are undoubtedly the elderly and the chronically ill, with the exception that we must not forget that even a young person can develop a serious form of the disease.

– The most serious clinical pictures are more related to the elderly, older than 60 years, while the youngest from 20 to 40 rarely develop a more serious form of the disease, but we must not forget that it exists. It is just proof that every rule has an exception, one should not have high hopes that a young man will surely push everything on his feet, because there is a belief among young people that they will not be hit by a heavier way, and until now it’s been like this for the last ten days. But now the situation is gradually getting complicated, so even the youngest can have a heavier form, although less often, but they can. And the reason is that there are many more sources of infection. Now we are back to the situation of the beginning of July, when the increase in the number of carriers of the virus contributed to the fact that young people are infected much more often and much more, explains Professor Tiodorović.

Other 2,412 infected

As the epidemiologist also explains, a difficult month awaits us, as well as the next, so we must be careful in every way. It was recorded in Nis that 50 percent of the total number of newly infected are from the city itself, and that the remaining percentage belongs to other patients who gravitate towards the Nis Clinical Center.

– The south is no longer an exception, it started everywhere. As I mentioned a few days ago, everything can change in 24 hours, sadly that just happened. Admission to KC Nis has increased by 50 percent, also in Vranje, it is of particular concern at Presevo. The capabilities are ready, but the situation is changing quite fast and that is what is unfavorable and what is worrying. We have a change in eastern Serbia, there is Kladovo, Zajecar, their infectious wards are slowly filling up, with the fact that they send the most serious cases to Nis – says the epidemiologist.

When singing, the virus “floats” up to seven meters

As Professor Tiodorović also explains, the most important thing is to control compliance with the measures, because masks reduce the spread and transmission of the virus, so it is important to wear them in all closed spaces, although it has been observed that some people wear them outdoor.

– If people kept a distance of at least one and a half meters, there would be no such kind of transmission. But it is not the same when someone sings out loud, if someone screams like in stadiums, in a cafe, in a club. When someone sings, the virus floats between seven and eight meters. It is not the same to sit and talk or sing in the middle of a crowd. We insist on masks because that way the possibility of contagion is reduced, but honestly I do not see that the message is more necessary and everyone has already been bored, everyone should know that. In addition, we lack the commitment of people who deal with health promotion in terms of management, to explain to young people that it is important to wear masks. For me, the main message that I have been talking about for months is the control of the implementation of the measures, the supervision, all other stories are completely useless – concludes Professor Tiodorović.
