– It is obvious that sesame and the products containing its seeds are still on our market, although the phytosanitary inspection announced that the importation of several tons of sesame from India was prevented, in which the illegal presence of ethylene oxide was established – He said.

According to him, so far only one commercial company has announced that it will withdraw sesame from sale, but the question is what about other companies and whether they will behave socially responsibly and react appropriately.

– We have a clear competence based on the Food Safety Law and the agricultural inspection can implement a traceability system, which means that every food business operator is obliged to provide information on when and when raw materials were acquired, when and how they were he found. in retail and based on that, every quantity of products on the market is tracked – explained Alfirović.

He emphasized that this is a very important issue for the health and safety of consumers, and with such issues, as he added, there is no place for any bidding, whether the law is respected or not.

– We were definitely late in the whole story. Apparently someone failed in that process. There is a way to fix everything, but now it is much more difficult, because sesame is already on the market. Their entry should have been prevented at the border and now we have to put out the fire – he said, adding that now all measures must be taken in accordance with the Food Safety Law and all entities of the food business are obliged to cooperate with the inspection. agricultural to correct any irregularities.
