The trial of citizens of Serbia (43) and the Netherlands (41), accused of robbing and inflicting serious bodily injury on a Swiss politician as members of the Pink Panthers criminal group, from whom he later died, has been postponed due to a judicial scandal.

The hearing, which began on Friday, had to be postponed after just one hour because one of the defense attorneys demonstratively left the room. Thomas Fingerhut, who represents the Dutch defendant, theatrically donned his coat and ran out of the courtroom because the judge did not want to accept his objection to the conditions suffered by his client in detention.

After the hearing, he said that he no longer wanted to participate in the proceedings, got dressed and demonstratively left the courtroom. The judge and the panel members watched the scene in shock and then made the decision to postpone the trial until further notice.

– Here, we are forced to postpone the trial until further notice. Merry Christmas to you – said the judge briefly.

The felony trial, which resulted in the death of one person, is believed to continue until the summer of next year.

It should be remembered that the Serbian and the Dutchman are accused of breaking into the house of the Swiss politician Ivo Borer in Metzerlen in March 2010 with the intention of robbing him.

It is believed that they had a report from a Serb, otherwise a member of the Pink Panther, that the politician had jewelry and money worth several million francs in the house. When they broke into the house and couldn’t find the loot, they tied up the politician and beat him to death. In the end, they fled the house with only the car key, leaving the unfortunate man in a pool of blood.

His wife found him and immediately called an ambulance. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors fought for his life for months. However, due to serious bodily injury, he passed away four months later.

An accusation was also brought against a Montenegrin citizen on suspicion that he helped them commit this crime, more precisely, that he took them to the home of a politician and then helped them escape. An accusation has also been brought against a Croatian citizen who is at large.

After leaving the courtroom, Fingerhut said that he did not want to be a part of the process where the judge did not want to accept his appeal and provide his client with normal living conditions while in detention.

– My client was humiliated and the detention conditions are inhumane. He is in a cell where he is exposed to the eyes of all. There he sleeps, changes clothes and defecates. It only has a hole dug in the middle of the cell for that. I have worked as a lawyer for 20 years, but I have never had a case of such humiliation of a client and jeopardizing his health condition – Fingerhut said.
