The Belgrade High Court rendered a verdict in which Aleksandra Janković Aranitović was found guilty of endangering the safety of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. She was, in repeated proceedings, sentenced to a six-month suspended prison term, writes CINS.

As it says GENDERAleksandra Janković Aranitović was sentenced in the Belgrade High Court to a six-month suspended prison term because she endangered the safety of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. That is, on July 24 last year, he insulted the sons of the President of Serbia with disparaging words on Twitter.

This sentence will not be carried out if Janković Aranitović does not commit a new criminal offense within two years from the date the verdict is final. However, even if that happens, Janković Aranitović’s prison sentence will include the six months she spent in detention.

Judge Jelena Škulić said that in making the decision, the court took into account that Janković Aranitović admitted that he wrote the controversial comment on Twitter, because he wanted to insult the president of Serbia, but nothing more than that. However, the court considers that these are not curse words and insults characteristic of the Serbian language, but rather a threat that “causes a feeling of anxiety, insecurity and discomfort” in the person to whom it is addressed, especially because it is related to children of the victim. parents “.

Škulić pointed out that in the repeated proceedings it was undoubtedly established that Vučić was aware of the comment and that the court concluded that he indisputably had to experience a feeling of threat and that it must have disturbed him in a way that corresponds to feelings of personal insecurity. characteristic of the crime of threatening security.

“That is, it inevitably affects all parents more when this type of statement is addressed to him, but it also refers to his children as people close to him, because for any parent there are certainly no people closer to him than his children” , said. .

Today’s verdict was approved after the Belgrade Court of Appeal, based on the defense attorney’s appeal, reversed the original verdict that Janković Aranitović was also sentenced to six months of suspended prison and returned the procedure for a new trial . In its decision, the Court of Appeals declared that Vučić’s danger and anxiety could not be assessed without his examination.

However, the injured party Aleksandar Vučić was not heard in the courtroom even in the repeated proceedings.

The CINS recalls that the head of security for the President of Serbia, Darko Đošić, was questioned in the courtroom last week, and the judge, explaining the verdict, said that his testimony “undoubtedly established that the aggrieved party knew the content of the comment of the accused “.

“That the threats were taken very seriously, that is why certain activities and measures were taken, which are reflected in the involvement of a greater number of people, funds, equipment and other things,” he says.

Škulić said that this directly refutes the defense’s opposing thesis and renders irrelevant the content of the April press conference recording, in which Vučić says he does not use Twitter. The defense presented that recording as evidence last week, and the CINS president wrote about this statement previously.

Janković Aranitović, security measures were also imposed: compulsory psychiatric treatment in general and confiscation of objects, that is, telephones. CINS previously wrote that Janković Aranitović could have ended up in a psychiatric hospital due to an expert report that was not based on all the data.

The defense and the prosecution have the right to appeal this verdict, according to CINS.
