And online in danger

News agencies report that the pandemic and uneven global economic growth have caused problems with a shortage of containers, first in Asia, but other parts of the world have also been affected.

In China, companies have been waiting weeks for containers for delivery of goods, paying high rates of tariffs, which has caused a large increase in delivery costs. This affects all companies that need to deliver goods from there, but especially those that deal with online commerce and consumers who can bear the burden of higher costs.

The critical shortage of maritime containers has caused this jump, as well as the shortened deliveries from that country. What percentage will this affect the price of Chinese retail products? Importers from Bosnia and Herzegovina have estimated that the price increase in their market will be 20 to 25 percent.

The owners of Chinese goods stores in Serbia say that everything depends on the wholesalers.

“We have not yet bought goods that have arrived in more expensive containers. We do not know what will happen, it all depends on the behavior of wholesalers. If prices rise, so do we,” they say in a Chinese department store.

Miroslav Mihi, from a company that mediates in the search and shipment of goods from China, estimates that consumers will surely have to pay more for products that come from that country, if this situation persists.

“The price of shipping from China is higher to the whole world, and not just to our country, and the benchmark data from the FBX site, which monitors the container shipping index, shows that it is now three times more expensive in comparison. with the same period last year, almost $ 6,000 per container, “says Mihi.

When transportation becomes more expensive, someone has to bear those costs. These can be suppliers, merchants or consumers. In some situations, this burden is borne by wholesalers and retailers, thus reducing their mare to retain customers. However, smaller companies will not be able to afford the cost. Ultimately, companies will decide what is best for them.

The price of transport has dropped because, as Mihi explains, there are no containers.

“China produces and exports goods that go in containers, but they do not return, because the rest of the world does not have as much placement in the markets of that country, and that is how it came to be,” said the Novosti interlocutor.

Mark Jaeger, chief executive of Redwood Lodistics, says that compared to March last year, prices for shipping containers from China to Europe and the United States increased 300 percent. He notes that spot prices go up to around $ 6,000 per container, compared to the usual fee of $ 1,200.
