Today, Vice President of the Freedom and Justice Party (SAA), Borko Stefanović, questioned the statement of the US Ambassador, Anthony Godfrey, on the actions of the police in Serbia during the July demonstrations.

In a meeting with Serbia’s new Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin on Wednesday, Godfrey said that he “appreciates the restraint shown by police officers” on police actions during the July protests in Belgrade.

The SAA said that Stefanovic said today that citizens of Serbia attended the July 7 demonstrations, “rebelling against the repression of the Vucic regime, trying to imprison us all without any justification, and because of the general situation in our country.”

Stefanovic recalled that at that time, “Serbian police forces, para-police forces, fanatics and people without police insignia repressed, beat, beat Serbian citizens, indiscriminately fired tear gas in all directions and committed acts of violence against journalists.”

“Ambassador Godfrey, what did the Serbian police hold back in the photos? Are these the bloody heads of Serbian citizens? Is this necklace on the citizens of Serbia that night? Is it restricted, when four policemen trample and beat a defenseless citizen ? Is it the containment of the Serbian police special combat vehicles driven into the streets, firing tear gas in all directions where people were suffocating and in their apartments? Is it the containment of the Serbian police when the parapolice forces of Vučić without a badge trample a man on his head while he was lying helpless on the ground? ”Asked Stefanović.

Stefanovic affirmed that “there is no moderation” in that, and recalled the report of the EU Commission, which says that “public order must be guaranteed, but all use of force must be measured and proportional in each situation and in each moment”.
