The citizens of Belgrade will get a new and modern solution to cross the intersection between Makedonska and Dečanska streets, following the example of London, Stockholm and Tokyo. An exclusive pedestrian phase will be established during the next weekend, and already on Sunday afternoon, pedestrians will be able to cross the intersection zone at the pedestrian crossings, which will be both straight and diagonal, actually in the middle of the intersection, in six crosses.
The most modern way
Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić says that this will speed up the flow of traffic, but also increase security.
– We try to work like all the metropolises in the world, because Belgrade is also a metropolis. This solution is one of the most modern in the world and the Traffic Department has prepared it with great care. In this way, any conflict between vehicles and pedestrians will be avoided, and I hope that the citizens will accept the new solution well – said Vesić.
He added that the City of Belgrade will continue working to improve traffic, and that one of the ways is the agreement reached with “Siemens”, which will have 322 traffic lights out of 650 in the adaptive traffic management mode.
The shortest routes
The secretary of the Traffic Department, Dušan Rafailović, says that the work of the new light signaling is organized into three signaling phases of 120 seconds.
– As of Friday, works will be carried out, but that do not significantly interfere with the operation of traffic, and the crossings will be painted at night. The new crossing will be very functional and pedestrians will not be bothered by the length of the shorter routes, they will just have to get used to it.
